Hi mugwump,

Here's a few lines of a confirmed working file and you can PM me with your email address or contact details if you want the whole file.

This has been copy and pasted directly from notepad.

-5.5335,50.12043,Argos Penzance,
-5.30058,50.21478,Argos Camborne,
-5.08089,50.41421,Argos Newquay,
-5.07411,50.15449,Argos Falmouth,
-5.05375,50.26294,Argos Truro,
-4.96791,51.80368,Argos Haverfordwest,

It's the same Long/Lat format that streetmap.co.uk uses.

All the files I have have the trailing comma, thats because their is another field ,details that comes after name.

I wouldn't think anyone would require this or they could add it in them selves.

The name doesn't require "quotes"

Thank You

Mugwump,

You can save any POI file as a Garmin.CSV file from POIedit, would that not give you all the right information?

As previously posted your site is great 8) , thanks for a very useful facility.

Nick.

Hi all,

Managed to grab some time today!

The postcode converter now has an option to create Garmin csv output, I dont have a garmin to hand to test it right now so give it a try and let me know.

Thanks....

Doh! It looks like my code change had a knock on effect on the mapping function, this has now been corrected (I hope). Embarassed

Development Rule #76, dont test your software in public.

But I did say the Garmin stuff was Beta....... Wink

I might be a bit thick here, but how do you convert the copied data from the email directly to a Garmin .csv file?

Hi,

If you copy and paste the waypoint data into notepad/wordpad etc and then select File->Save As , select "all files" as the file "save as type" (if you leave it as text files windows will probably try to stick a .txt extension on it) and call the file whatever you want but ensure that it ends .csv

eg:

File -> Save as
Select file type "All files"
enter filename eg; waypoints.csv
Select Save

Alternatively just save the file and rename it as a .csv file in explorer, you will need to ensure that file extensions are displayed (in Windows Explorer select Tools->Folder Options, Select the "View" tab and ensure that "Hide Extensions for known file types" is *unchecked* )

If this is a real pain I will work on sending the waypints as a CSV attachment rather than in the text of the email. Let me know how you get on....

Mugwump,

That works perfectly. I have done a small test file all the way through the process.

Thanks for the help and thanks again for a great site.

Hi Folks,

Not sure if this thread is still active but there is an incredibly simple solution for creating POIs that avoids all the nasty file converstions etc.

With www.poigenie.co.uk you can just enter a postcode, an address or even just coords to create a POI - uniquely you can also add a custom icon 8)

Also has a growing database of POIs - and FREE speed camera POIs for those in the UK.

See you there!

D.

Not true as there is a charge when you finally find the download page, that site is difficult to follow clicking an endless number of links and at the last hurdle you find

Where I got the charge fee from in the post above was from following the link on the site all the way to the scdb site where there is a chargeable condition for data.

For the record POI Genie do not charge for any of the downloads from their site (thanks for pointing this out Dave, and sorry for any confusion caused) - Mike
