Hello...

I want to make a cable that I can charge the 236 from a RJ11 connector in the one end (TomTom standard) and a mini-USB in the other end. (input on the 236)

Basicly I will cut the USB connector off from a USB---> miniUSB cable and put a RJ11 there instead.

Anybydy who cnow how the wiring is for charging the 236.

You're looking for +5v and Ground. Cut off the USB connector. Looking at a
standard Type A connector, Pin 1 (left side) is +5v, Pin 2 + 3 are data and Pin 4 (right side) is ground.

The correct colour convention is Red for +5v and Black for Ground with White and Green being data.

If the colours don't match these then ensure any bare wires are seperated and plug into a USB Port. Using a multimeter you should be able to identify which colour wires are +5v and Ground.

After reading this question, I'm not sure if the connector is standard Mini USB.....
To cut a long story short, I have a O2 XDA SP (iMate SP3i etc) it uses a standard Mini usb as I've been able to buy a spare lead "off the shelf" for my work pc.
I tried to use the Mini USB charger supplied with the Smart phone to charge the Holux Slim gps rx. I hadn't plugged it in to the mains luckly Embarassed and as soon as it went into the mini USB connector the GPS RX powered off, unpluged it and it came back on.
I can only guess that it shorted the battery.... !!

Any suggestions appreciated..... Phil

A bit of an old post, but I'd thought i'd reply --
I recently built some USB power ports into my car so I could "hardwire" my gps and other devices..
Using a regular mini-USB cable will charge the 236, however, plugged into a computer the RX/TX lines are shorted and likely the 236 tries to send its GPS coordinates over the wire instead of thru the BT stack.
Using the same cable on a simply 5v system (TX/RX lines not connected anywhere) it charges and i get my gps signals fine.
