|

Got a brand new TOMTOM 700 today.
Turned it on and got a splash screen with a pair of hands accompanied by a drum roll. After a short interval get a second TOMTOM splash screen.
That's it - can't get anywhere else. It just stays on that second splash screen. Then as I wait in anticpation of menus appearing - nothing - followed by the screen going black after a while(auto power off??). I have tried everything but I never get to any menus.
I touched the splash screen to see if that activated it - I used the remote also, tried it with the DC power plugged in in case the batteries were low.
Alas nothing works. It looks very nice but how do I make it work?/
Is it supposed to do this or is there a secret way of starting it up - the manual says nothing except to power up. Am I missing something??
Thanks .. |

sounds like your tomtom is faulty, it should just load once turned on. it should show a loading screen with a progress bar after the logo and drum roll
try pressing the reset button on the bottom near the front, you will need a pin or paper clip as it is VERY small
other than that you should take it back to where you brought it providing you got it new, they should just replace it for another as you only got it today
hope that helps

Thanks for the reply.
I gave up and took it back and obtained a full refund.
(It seemed easier than arranging exchange etc)
I'll order another now I know I am not going mad!!
I did get a quick progress bar after the first splash screen before the second one loaded but that was it..
I tried the pin reset thing too - no difference.
Thanks again for the reply - at least I know I wasn't doing something wrong. |

Did you have it connected to a PC via the USB cable ?
They dont do operate when connected to a PC.
Just a thought |

No. I never got that far. Didn't want to open the cd as they can be funny about returning it then. Just tried it out of the box with the power on. |

Just a thought. Did you charge it up before turning it on after removing it from the box? |

Sorry - ignore that. I missed the bit in your original post where you said you used DC power in case the batteries were low. |

The 700 doesn't use SD card's it has an internal Microdrive :D _________________ Darren Griffin |
