APP 5.410 and the device is AK5AA GPS V1.21. and how do i find out if i'm using SDK. And last of all (but i will be back) does anyone recommend warrany £50.00 for three years or are they reliable

Hi wayneb,

Welcome to the forum.

There have been no software updates since the TomTom One was released, therefore all production TomTom One units are on the same level, which is 5.420.

If you do want to check this, then do the following:

Change Preferences | Show Version

The above will tell you your application version (and build number) and your map version number.

TomTom website wrote:
This update (5.420) is not suitable for TomTom GO devices running applications based on the TomTom SDK (Software Development Kit). The SDK uses application versions 5.202 or 5.203.

We strongly recommend that you make a backup of your TomTom GO memory card before you install the new application.

All versions of 5.420 (GO and One) are not suitable for running applications based on the TomTom SDK (Software Development Kit).

You also asked about warranty. Personally, I think that if it works for a year then it will work a few more as long as you don't damage it.

Regards,

Bo Peep.

My apologies, I was under the impression that the TomTom One had not had any updates, that’s what I told Bo Peep. Embarassed Embarassed

As you haven’t changed it in any way, I recommend that you take a complete backup of the SD card and store it on your PC or burn it to a CD, or do both.

In fact you may want to consider getting a larger SD card and copying the SD card that came with your One to the larger card and keeping the original SD card in a very safe location for backup purposes.

You can download 5.420 from the TomTom website.

You can also download any POIs and the camera database too, regardless of the software version.

Regards,

I’ve just about stopped blushing now. ;) Yes I’ve learnt something new too! ;)

Absolutely! 8) I've moved the thread to the "TomTom GO/Rider/One" section. Thumbs Up

Firstly, as I don’t have a TomTom One, what size is the original SD card?

I’d get a 512Mb or even a 1Gb SD card, in case you want to install extra voices, screen colours, and third-party applications should TomTom bring out a version that will run third party applications based on the TomTom SDK (Software Developer Kit).

As for make, any recognised brand should do. Hopefully other TomTom One owners will give their advice here. Personally I prefer the Kingston brand but that’s for CF cards on my iPAQ h2210 PocketPC.

Finally, you may want to invest in a card reader/writer, as that will probably make the copying process much quicker.

Regards,

That's the size of the internal memory. The SD Card will be 128MB.

As %.410 just fitted onto the 128Mb card, I bought a Kingston 256Mb from ebuyer. Bags of room for additional stuff (128Mb in fact), I would have thought 512Mb was a bit OTT.

I think that maps are the big thing - if you're going to stick with just UK maps then 256mb is probably enough.

If you want to add some European maps then look at the sizes of those maps.

If you want to add street level mapping across europe then I think you will need a 2gb card.

POI, applications, voices are all small by comparison.

Thanks all .And the idea of letting everyone know wich cards work and wich don't is great' why waist money ? take advice. One other thing i know
most people have a mobile phone' before buying tomtom. But in my case my contract is up and i am looking for a phone with bluetooth compatability in mind. But tomtoms list of compatable phones is very short
so a list of phones could be very usefull to alot of people. p.s sorry if that ones allready available. Laughing
