Hi
I'm using Memory Map V5 to plot out my bike trails before I go out. however currently I'm spanning two OS maps (region 8 and 10) I've worked out how to merge the two maps and have done so, but now I only have elevation data in one half of the new map (i.e. over map 10, not map 08 )
Both original maps have elevation data (.qed files) before they were merged.

Hi Paul,
Yes, this is a limitation of MM, it only merges the maps, not the elevation data. AFAIK the only "solution" is to buy the full GB DVD (or the complete north or south products) which have single files for the map and elevation data. Maybe worth emailing wishlist@memory-map.com.
The only other (partial) work-around is to download the free European elavation data file (which includes the UK) from the MM website here and rename the file the same as your merged map (with .QED extension). However, the resolution is much worse than the proper data file (I think on a 900 metre grid instead of 30m) so is of limited accuracy.
just create two sections of map, one from 10 and one from 8, send each to your pda with the corresponding qed file, then when you are using the pda, as you near the edge of map 8 the screen will be white, so just tap/hold in the white area and a box opens with the name of the next map at cursor, select, and away you go. The track/route etc you have saved will still be visible and if you are recording a track as you go you will be able to transfer this back to you pc at home to view it completely on your `merged` map..
cheers
