OK - thanks. I'll re-phrase things slightly then....
Is 1 Gb enough to hold GB & France. I'm aiming to download as it's the cheapest option and then store on CD and upload to the TT1 as required.
I use the french one the most and occasionally the Spanish one.
Quite simply I don't see the need to spend cash on a big SD card when I won't be using the capacity more than once or twice a year. |

Yes, but you won't get door to door routing; you'll have to switch maps. _________________ Tim |

The M's and B's should be CAPITALS.
mb might mean milli byte.
I bought a ttone 1GB europe for my one that has most of europe(France, Germany,Italy,Spain,Belgium,Holland) for 70 pounds, I have to swap it for my UK card though. I bought it through

Couldn't be bothered to press shift or CAPS LOCK. I'm sure you got the message though./ |

A few people have been asking that question for ages and I finally got the definitive answer in THIS thead.
The gist of it is:
MikeB wrote: | Aparently the reason that we are not able to allow edits to posts are because when we ported the database from one system to the current one there was (is) a bug in it that allowed anyone to edit any posts. |
So there is a reason for it, at least. |

Thanks Andy_P2002 for reply. That could cause a few problems.
Just have to use the preview button more often. |

What I mean to type (honest) was that 2Gb = 256MB |
Where did you go to school?! |
I obtained my Honors Degree in Computing Science from The University of Glasgow, why?
b is for bits
B is for Bytes
If you want me to be really pedantic, memory should be written as GiB (GibiBytes) or MiB (MebiBytes) according to the IEEE to prevent confusion with the standard for telecoms where 1MegaByte is only 1000 Bytes, not 1024 as used in computing.
For the uneducated (ie you) here's a link that should explain all:

OK
8 bits - 1 byte
1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte
1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte |

Actually I suppose that should be
8 bits = 1 byte
1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 mebibyte
1024 mebibytes = 1 gibibyte |

http://193.173.148.203/cens/spm/maps/index.php?usr=&langcode=uk
Is the downloadable version
This product allows you to download the seven individual maps of Great Britain, DE AT CH PL CZ, France, Italy, Iberia, Benelux and Scandinavia. All of these maps are detailed regional maps connected to the Western European major road network.
filesize on device: 1.9 GB
Intrestinging to note that the only people who seem to actally use the IEEE convention of using GiB and KiB are the people who actually stand to make money out of it ie HDD manafacturers, ISPs that charge/cap by the GB and also SD Card manafactuers.
Yor 2GB sd card will actually be 2GiB so if your break that down
2GiB = 2,000,000 bytes
2,0000,00 / 1024 = 1953.125 MB
1953.125 / 1024 = 1.907 GB
Therefore it pretty much stands to reason that these maps are not going to fit on anything less than a 2GB SD card. |

Urghh I realise I made two cockups in my last post it is early (I just got up)
From what I recall the last call with GB and GiB was that it was NOT standard just a suggestion hence why your pc will still report a 60GB Hard Disk Drive as being 55.8GB and not 55.8GiB. As Binary does not use base 10 and uses base 2 the only argument for using 1KB = 1000bytes is pure human simplification. Theres nothing to force Microsoft say to make the distiction between GB and GiB just like theres nothing to stop the HDD manafacturers from either.
It was only late 90s when this argument rearlly kicked off and then they started arguing over this.

That would depend on which way you were looking at. I was at Uni everyone stuck with 1024 as using 1000 = 1KB would prob have to justify yourself on an exam paper and its not worth the hastle
But yes
1Byte = 1Byte (8 Bits) prob the only agreed one.
1000 bytes = 1KB (0.977 KiB )
1000000 bytes = 1MB ( 0.954 MiB )
1000000000 bytes = 1GB (0.93 GiB )
Etc Etc |

Not quite. That is a link to the separate maps, which will not allow cross-map routing, not to the single seamless map, which will.
Bear in mind that these separate maps will all have 12 files, will each require a separate directory, etc., and your 2GB will definitely be reduced.
But as far as I am aware, the single map isn't available for download anyway. _________________ Tim |

I stand corrected I was actually considering buying that as well
I think the 1.9GB figure quoted though is the combined total of all the maps so I wouldent have thought they could do too much to that figure to squeeze a whole Gig or even half a Gig of that total easily. |

I think 1.9GB is the size of all the 'plus' maps. Should be a lot less if you only add the single country maps. I could get all but two of the single country maps of Europe as well as the old MRE map onto a 1GB card with about 50MB spare. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)
