Hi All,

My friend is looking at purchasing a PDA/ GPS Tom Tom combo.
As this is a minefield have any of you got any recommendations on what to get.
We would prefer to get an HP type device (with wifi if poss) with Windows rather than a palm device.
Cost in the region of £300ish with TTN, carkit, PDA & GPS.

Any ideas??

Cheers

Sparky

Good evening.

Has anyone got any suggestions for this?
Should we not get an HP or is there a model / combo that is best left?

Cheers

£300 ish for everything might be a struggle. I think the decision to go for an HP product and windows based software/Tom Tom is right – stick with the big guns if in doubt.

A good car mount and ridged attachment for your car are well worth getting right so be prepared to look at something like Brodit Proclip and mounts.

If an on-line retailer seems to be offering a much better deal than the others (say £50 less) look very carefully, there’s probably something missing from the box.
Before ordering phone them to make sure they have what you want in stock, the websites are not necessarily accurate so far as stock availability is concerned.

I recommend the advice in the sticky at the front of this thread, after reading it I went for an HP iPAQ hx4700 (eyesight not as good as it used to be so wanted the larger screen), Tom Tom Navigator 5, Brodit Proclip & active mount (so benefiting from the amplified voice instructions). My budget was less restricted than yours.

Always remember the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

Cheers
