I am considering getting a sat nav system, at the basic end price wise. I would rather have a PDA system than dedicated GPS as then I would be able to use it for other things rather than paying out for something that is only of use in a car.

So I have looked at the Medion PNA100 PDA, for £199 at Halfords, and have read good things about it here. Friends have told me that the TomTom systems are much better than the others, so would it be possible, if I'm not happy with the installed GPS software, to clear it off the PDA and install TomTom software?

Also, I have a Mac not a PC, although I do have Virtual PC running Win98 very slowly (press a button and go make a cup of tea slowly!!). Do I need a PC to set up the Medion or is the system self contained, and would I need PC access to install TomTom? I know about software like Missing Sync and PocketMac to sync Windows PDA with Mac, so if software like that is needed its no big hassle.

Thanks in advance, people!

I think I will be getting the PNA 100, it just seems like the best deal at the moment for £200. That is if its in stock at Halfords, the website store is out now!

I went to halfords this morning in manchester (old trafford) looking to buy the pna 100 and they were out of stock even out of stock on the 175 and the mio 268 at that store and another 2 stores they rang and asked about stock..So I guess I will have to wait and see if they get more stock on friday or go and buy the yakumo alpha on monday (I think it's the same as a mio 168 or the acer n35) either way it's a ppc with wm2003 I know it uses the marco polo software but I have TT5 ready and waiting to be installed if it's no good

I'm not sure if you would be able to install TomTom using VirtualPC, you may need access to a PC for the install.

However, once installed you will be fine.

Hello
I got mine from toys r us, It's a medion pna 220t £175. Dont know what the difference is between the 100 and the 220 other than the software is navigator 4.2-5 but it works well and not managed to trip it up yet.

I also know that staples does the pna 100 at £199 as this was the first unit i looked at.

I would also be grateful if somebody could tell me the difference between the 2 units medion say the pna100 was launched in 2004 and the 220t was launched in june 2005 but the majority of people have the pna100.

Hope this helps

OK, So I went to the local Halfords this morning, they were sold out of PNA 100 and have been since before Christmas Sad .

So I went over to Staples to have a look what they had, for PDA systems there was a choice of Mio 168 or Navman Pin 570, but the Mio didnt have GPS software included, so I was all set to buy the Navman, they went to the stock room, come back and said they didn't actually have any of them in stock Sad Sad .

So I came home, went back online, and went to the Halfords site again. The PNA 100 is in stock!!! :D . So I now have a PNA 100 winging its way to my door!! :D :D.
