I've just installed TTN5 on my Ipaq RX3715 and purchased a GPSlim 236 to go with it. I've paired the Holux to my Ipaq and chose SPP slave as per the instructions.

Within TTN5 I have selected 'Other' Bluetooth GPS device and connect via Bluetooth Serial Port:Com 6

Despite this TomTom still tells me No GPS device!

Anyone any thoughts on why i'm not getting a fix. I just sat in the car for fifteen minutes and there wasn't any hint of it getting a fix.

When you configured the GPS with the Bluetooth, did you go to the COM Ports Tab and select New outgoing, then select the Com Port (com0 is what I use), then in TomTom select the Com0 port when you configure the GPS, then I am afraid to say it another trip outside - Mike

Not quite sure what you mean. The options TT gives me to connect to are:-

COM3
Bluetooth Serial Port COM6
Bluetooth Serial Port COM9
S2410 IRDA2410
S2410 COM4
Serial Cable on COM1
S2410 COM0
Serial on USB

I've currently selected 'Bluetooth Serial Port COM 6'

Steve, Having re-read your original query, I am not surprised you don't understand (I was giving you instructions based on WM2005 opperating system, you are using WM2003SE) - I sugest in TomTom you try other Other cable NMEA GPS, set the BAUD speed to 38400 then go for the Bluetooth port on the next screen (switch the display to landscape mode then you can read all the info on the screen). I appreciate that it is a BT device, BUT it does work when selected to Cabled in this way - by the way did the orange led on top of the 236 start to flash? as that signals that at least the reciever is picking something up - Mike

Mike, I've just installed the GPS viewer software that came with the 236 on my IPAQ. This clearly said GPS device detected on COM6, and when I then went to the 'world' screen it was picking up several satellites and giving me a long-lat fix.

So i've gone back into TT gone to Configure GPS hardware selected Other Cabled NMEA device, set the Baud rate at 38,400 and the selected COM6 as my port, and still it says 'No GPS device'

The orange light is flashing every second on the Holux so its picking up the sats, and the bluetooth light is flashing every 3 seconds as it should.

Sorry to be a pain but what now?

In the TT GPS screen is the little yellow/ blue circle (top RH) spinning, if so its recieving data, the only option is to wait, the first fix with TT and a new GPS can take some time. Go outside, (in the car) and wait for at least 15 to 20 Mins, if that yellow/ Blue circle isn't spinning then there is still something wrong with the set-up - Mike

Mike, I dont understand this.

why is there so much problems setting up TT to work. It seems it is a real pain. Seeing as i was goibng to select The HOlux 236 i'm now worried again.

Cheers

Mav, Its not the unit that's at fault, the confusion arises when the suppliers utility can view satellites, but TomTom says it can't, so long as the yellow/ blue disk (top RH) is spinning it will get a fix, it just takes a while the first time. This can also be due to thermal glass attenuating the signal to the reciever, or at times in built up areas. It also helps is the reciever is stationary, in a moving vehicle it is evn worse (another common fault) Patience is required, but human nature these days wants the instant fix. Mike
