Hi

another newbie to the world of speed camera detection. I followed a script found on here which involved creating 2 new files called auto alert 1 and auto alert 2, which works a treat.

The problem I have is that I dont get enough warning about the camera or an audio saying it is a camera. I get around 1 seconds warning and a favourites audio.

The script mentioned copying two audio files called auto alert 1 and 2 but I cant see them anywhere on my PC or PPC.

Can anyone help?

TIA

Hello,
Sounds to me like you need Mikey F's help, sure he will be along soon!

In the meantime, have you changed the warning distances on your unit? I have my Acer N35 set to 400 and then 100 metres as a reminder.

Steve.

Afternoon everyone,
I have just been given an Acer N35 with Destinator3 installed on it for christmas. I want to get a speed camera alert 'thingy' on it but I haven't got the first idea about how to do it. (Complete PDA biff!!!)

Can anyone help me...? Bearing in mind that I know nothing at all about POI's etc so please have a bit of patience. If it makes it easier I will let you know my phone number to speed things up abit.

PLEASE can some kind person help...?

Cheers guys! Sad

Trevtawn

This is how I did it. The script was on this forum and it works a treat.

I cannot recall who put the script up but many thank for doing so!

To be done each time there is an update (monthly).

Download the months updates from

http://pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

Extract the master file
(pocketgps_uk_sc.zip/single file version/csvfiles/destinator3/pocketgps_uk_sc)
from the zip file to a folder

Open the file using Excel
Save as Auto Alert 1 you'll get an error message, just ignore this.
Cut the red camera sections and paste this into another file and
call this file Auto Alert 2
You should now have 2 files
Auto Alert 1.csv - This contains all the camera's except red light cameras
Auto Alert 2.csv - This contains the red light camera's

Convert using Destinator console
To do this Open up the console and make sure the map is selected (UK_Ireland for Britian)
Click Favourites Importer
In the new window select the file you wish to convert
(you'll have to do this for Auto Alert 1 & 2)
(As most versions of destinator won't allow us to use the download function the next steps will have to be done manually)

Use windows to go to
C:\DestinatorApps\Installer\Console\IndepIndep\Favorites
(This is where the files are)
Transfer these files (Auto Alert 1 & 2 .dat) using pc into your pocket PC directory
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites

You've now got the updated files

To be done as a One off to setup pocketPC

Copy the Auto Alert 1 & 2 bmp files into your pocketpc into the directory below
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites

To enable the pocketpc to speak the correct warning,
you also have to insert a new DestinatorVoiceManeuvers and auto alert 1 & 2 wav files into
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Interface\Voice\All

Hope this helps all those Destinator users out there

Sorry guys, been away for a few days, something about a birthday many year ago!! Laughing Out Loud.

Anyway, back to the serious topic of Destinator & Speed cameras.

1. No you can't set-up the system to only respond to cameras on your side of the road. Furthermore this wouldn;t work as some cameras, especially mobiles may be sighted off road and this causes all sorts of problems.

2. the instructions earlier in this post will only work if you have the edited DestinatorVoiceManeuvers file. (corrects auto alert settings for 1 & 2)
You can do this manually or email me for the file.

3. Voice warnings. This one is very easy, ou can actually create your own wav files (again need to edit the DestinatorVoiceManeuvers file) or similarily email me and I'll send the voice files I have plus a few others (eg. third exit not ird exit).

I think this answers all the questions.

Happy New Year to all.

Mikey

Hi thanks for the help with Destinator. I have followed it so far apart from "2. the instructions earlier in this post will only work if you have the edited DestinatorVoiceManeuvers file.

" If you could help with the source of these files and how to do the required edits I would be very grateful.
