Idea I recently paid £9.49 for a CD advertised as a 'SOFTWARE & CONFIGURATION PACK' to enable POI's (low bridges) to be added.

The pack was described as

'created for those TomTom users who already have their own hardware and just require the data and configuration software from us'

and goes on to say;

'Using our configuration pack you can setup a warning for POI's for the route that you are travelling and then avoid the low bridge in plenty of time'

:D As my knowledge of adding POI's was nil I felt that the configuration pack would be just the job.

Confused In the event, although there were intructions on the CD, these were primarily for the tomtom go system. Since I have a PDA, the instructions did not help in the slightest.

Confused I contacted the company/individual (not sure if this is a 'one man' band?), the reply I received was arrogant and patronising to say the least, stating I had 'quoted text from their advertising'. Well why not, if it gets my questions across?

At the end of the email I was asked several questions - like 'have you read the manuals on the CD'.

I did (quite politely) respond and answered the few questions asked.

No response.

I have since emailed them a couple of times but they refuse to respond.

Crying or Very sad I guess I've most definately 'been had', ok it's only £9.49p but since I was misled in the first place it does cheese me off somewhat that these fraudsters are masquerading under what appears to be a legit site.

The company's details are;

TOMTOMPOI.NET - LANDIS MEDIA - Floor1 - 4 Stanley Close - Marlow - Bucks - SL71XL Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

To anyone thinking of sending money to this company - DO NOT!

Not sure from the site quite what they are selling. You don't need any additional software with TT to warn you of POIs. It is all there on TT5. They just appear to be selling a set of POIs listing low bridges. Wonder how accurate it is?

If the bridge heights are as dodgy as the software Peter, then I wouldn't risk driving the best part of 90 grand's worth of artic under one Exclamation

Check this out:

http://www.hwilliams.net/

Same address, but this one has phone numbers etc.

You may just be experiencing poor customer service rather than a con.

I have now received an email from this business (though not the guy mentioned in the previous post - not sure where he fits in?).

It transpires that they are only flogging a list of low bridges - the 'Software and Configuration' stuff is just a con Sad

THERE IS BELOW THE FULL TEXT OF OUR CORESPONDENCE WITH MR SMITH. WE WILL BE ASKING POCKETGPSWORLD TO REMOVE THE POSTS AS THEY GIVE A WRONG IMPLICATION OF OUR ORGANISATION.

YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT RESPONSES WERE PROMPT TO HIS E_MAILS AND THEY WERE NOT AT ANY TIME IGNORED.

WE RESPONDED PROMPTLY TO MR SMITH AND TRIED TO ASSIST HIM, EVEN THOUGH HIS OPENING E_MAILS IMPLIED THAT WE WERE DELIBERATELY TRYING TO CON HIM.

ONCE IT BECAME APPARENT THAT MR SMITH HAD PURCHASED THE WRONG PRODUCT (THE WEBSITE DOES MAKE CLEAR WHICH TOMTOM's WE SUPPORT) WE OFFERED HIM A REFUND.

WE ARE NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF "CONNING" ANYONE AND PUT A LARGE AMOUNT OF TIME AND TROUBLE INTO CREATING AND UPDATING PRODUCTS.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THINGS DIDNT WORK OUT FOR MR SMITH, BUT THATS NO REASON TO PUBLICLY MAKE FALSE ALLEGATIONS ABOUT OUR COMPANY.

WE HAVE SERVICED A LARGE NUMBER OF HGV AND OTHER DRIVERS WITH OUR DATA PACKS, AND HAVE REFUNDED 1% OF THESE DUE TO SETUP AND NCOMPATABILITY ISSUES. WE ALSO HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF TESTIMONIES TO OUR PRODUCT BEING WELL USED AND RECEIVED.

H.Williams - for
tomtompoi.net

Nigel,
Sorry that we cannot support you further but we are a site mainly aimed at the tomtom go/rider/one product set. We do support all versions above V 5.0 since this version from tomtom does run on many mobile and PDA devices.

We do supply instructions for this product - as you have seen from the manual, but they don’t of course apply to an earlier version with different settings.

If you send us the CD back (if you put 1 first class stamp it will be enough to get back to us) we will refund you the cost of the CD minus the published postage and admin cost (£1.50).

If you include your paypal account details we can use that. If you don’t have a paypal account then we can refund via your e-mail and you can then collect it via paypal and spend it elsewhere on the web.

Sorry that we couldn’t have been more help and that inadvertently you bought the wrong product. We will review the website text in case a false impression is given of the versions supported by the software.

Gary P

Hi Gary

I have a HP2210 and tomtom3, as for versions and technical terms I dont know.

I can turn the thing on, turn on the bluetooth and thats about it (I bought it configured to use). As previously stated I do not know how to add a POI, wouldn't know where to start.

Hence the reason for buying your 'software and configuration' pack, I was hoping there would be instructions showing me how to do it.

So it looks like I'm stuffed.

Thanks anyway.

Nigel.

Just click on my link at the bottom of this post, FREE low bridges poi's on the POI Page.

They install the same as any other poi, copy the .ov2 file((s) depending on your chosen choice) to the Great Britain map folder on your storage card along with the .bmp file((s) as above remark).

Then just select them in TT and away you go.

I have now been in contact with tomtompoi.net and the issues have now been resolved.

The company stated that their website was infact misleading;

tomtompoi wrote; Sorry that we couldn’t have been more help and that inadvertently you bought the wrong product. We will review the website text in case a false impression is given of the versions supported by the software.

In view of the fact that they have offered a full refund I will withdraw any implication that they are fraudsters, and can confirm that tomtompoi is a legitimate business selling software.
