I just bought maps of western Europe. Arrived today from Amazon. But it looks like the old version (Is it 5.309? The label on the bottom says 5D00.309).
Can I get a free update to the current version? Downloadable? Or is it better to just return it & buy a new copy?

As far as I am aware there are only two different sets of CDs.. The old set had 4 CDs. The later set had 6 CDs and was also labelled for TomTom Navigator5.
What version of map you have on the CDs will not be know until you open them and load them.
Have you seen the alternative of downloading the latest maps from the TomTom site and adding them to a blank SD that you will have to buy from elsewhere?
Or buying the whole of Western Europe on a 2GB card and having seamless detail mapping instead of lots of different countries and maps?

Yeah... I noticed the 2GB seamless maps today on the TT site... grr... Serves me right for being cheap & buying a 500 instead of a 700... Although 500 + 2GB card is still better... No HD to go wrong & I can replace the SD card myself.
Maybe I'll just return & buy the 2GB card... |

read the small print!!! The 2GB card on sale at the moment is the older v568.
I would wait for an update before buying. Can't be too long, surely? Or at least a promise from TT for a free upgrade if you bought after a certain date - like the 700 map on the HD.
If you bought a 700 after 20th November, TT will upgrade for free!!

i spoke to the tt go on tour team saturday they said if you buy one with the old maps tuff no free updates i said i want a 700 with new maps and sirf3 they said wait for the new units 6 months or so....or go for the one or buy the new maps my ideal unit would be tt with sirf3 latest v6 maps and a unit that is slimmer to fit the pocket not like the back of a bus it reminds me of an old lady with bat wings and a fat arse  |
