Hello all my first post..

I recently got a TomTom One and installed the speed camera data base
Its all working fine :D

I copied the origional TT sd memory card to a bigger backup card and
I use this backup card in the TT One and keep the original card in a safe place

But what is the activation code for?
everything seems to be working fine without it

Cheers Guy

It is used as an anti-piracy measure by TomTom.
The idea is that a map product is linked to a particular piece of hardware, and it works by putting the Product code of the map and the Device code of the unit into a website form. It then generates an Activation code, to be entered into the unit when it asks you.

When you buy a new Go/One/Rider, it comes pre-activated, so the activation screen will probably never appear. It WILL appear if you buy a new map and MAY appear if you copy onto another card (although judging by the forum posts, it seems quite variable if/when it happens in this case).

I copied files to a new 256MB card yesterday so I can fit POIs (love the Dr Who locations one!) and with my One can confirm it didn't request activation code with new card.

All I find is that whenever I add a new POI (using card reader/writer) I get the TomTom splash screen and sound the first time it's turned on with the card re-inserted in the One. Subsequently just get standard silent splash screen. Haven't checked but this may happen whenever you take out the SD vard and re-insert regardless of adding new POIs.

If you try using the copied card with another TomTom it will ask for the activation code

That figures - I thought TomTom would have made sure their maps and software was well-protected!
