I'm not sure if this is built in to the Go range, as i've not recieved my 300 yet, but my mate's navman has a feature to warn you if you go over the speedlimit. Its under the safety settings so the minute you go over the limit it warns you.

Obviously you can turn it off, but I think it would be a good idea for the tomtom.

don't expect too much from that feature. The map data would need to be much more accurate to make it useful (and this kind of data tends to change very often)

TomTom doesn't have that.

You can set the Tomtom to switch the map off over a certain speed but not different speeds for different roads.
Preferences, Turn off map display, Above certain speed.

The Navman doesn't have such a feature. It has a feature to warn you if you go over a set speed; that speed is set by you. So if you set the speed warning at 50mph and exceed that, even in a 60 or 70mph limit, the warning will sound/appear. (I've no idea what actually happens, as I've never used it.)

Its a shame that TomTom has written an SDK that seems to change (so far) with every new release rather than keepiNG backwards and forwards compatability.

Im sure there are plenty of applications that can be written I wouldent mind having a go but cant be bothered to look at the language if its going to change every release.

To add to that TomTom knows which roads are Motorways and which roads are national speed limit and bult up so there must be some sort of road classification maybe an app that will warn you when you hit 70 on a motorway or 30 in a built up area.

TomTom does have a fair idea what the speed limits are, just check the demo route feature.

I doubt it's of sufficient quality to give you speed limit data however. Especially since they change them on a daily basis!

Run that demo and watch the speeds it thinks you can go. 75mph on a motorway, 36mph on minor roads. You get strange effects like slowing right down for a slip road and then accelerating to 56mph to go round the roundabout.
