Running TT 2.24 and TT Bluetooth on a HP2210.
The problem I have is that I sometimes get a message that the GPS Position is unreliable, I then check in the GPS Status Screen and often have 4/6 grey bars showing but no satellite fix.
Do the bars have to reach a certain level to turn red ? Do the Bars indicate signal level ?
Other times the time to fix is seconds.
Is this normal GPS behaviour or can any one offer advice or a simple fix on this ?
Thanks _________________ Tim |

They don't have to reach a certain level, the length of the bar denotes the amount of signal strength in a way it think's it's receiving, this can be not accurate.
You need to have 4 red bars for TomTom to give a 3D fix and to allow for driving. What car are you driving ? It maybe that you have a heat reflective windscreen which is cutting down the signal strength and making it drop below a 3D fix (4 sats). Gray bars basically mean it doesn't have all the information from the satellites and is trying to piece together more of the information it's receiving to then calculate where you are between the satellites. |

I have been experiencing a (possibly) similar problem on my TomTom Bluetooth GPS receiver. I'm running TTN2 (2.24) on an iPAQ 5550. I haven't pinned down the problem sufficiently to report it yet, as it seems to be intermittent. But here's what I've noticed so far.
Most times the recevier and the whole setup works well (BTW, I do have a heat reflecting windscreen, and the GPS receiver is stuck to the windscreen in the middle of the little non-metalised hole). TTFF is a matter of seconds, and from then on location is very accurate.
However, on occasions it takes longer to get the first fix, and can't seem to hang on to it. I get 10-20 minutes of use where there is rarely any fix and when it does come it is generally only when I stop. GPS status shows at least 4 or 5 grey bars at over 50% height, but no fix or red bars. This is driving a route on which I have had perfectly good permanent fix at other times.
Oddly, I've so far only observed this first thing in the morning, which makes me wonder if it is related to one of the following:
- atmospheric or satelite positioning charateristics at this time of day
- problem with receiver that only manifests after longish period turned off
- effect of moisture on the windscreen
