egslav8r, ensure that the shinney side is facing the ipaq, this may help, any improvement is better

glad it helped...

Man&Dog, is this what they told you, because I was under the impression that only a few keys where modified to allow 2003 users to operate the software aswell

Onbashi,     I loaded SP2 soon after it's release was announced. All went fine until I powered OFF and ON and tried to start SmartST. I got an 'Authentication Error', and the comment 'Reactivate software from CD'. Tried this twice with no luck although the Navman Server confirmed registration was OK!
Called Navman Technical Support and the guy said SP2 was not for 2002 users only 2003 users and there were no benefits in SP2 for 2002 users. I said I really only wanted SP2 for the better GPS fixes in marginal areas. He said this was in SP1.
Had to reload SP1 to get operational again.
The best fix is four layers of an anti static bag. Works a treat in Kent. Thanks.

Cool! 37 secs that is impressive, I think that is the best improvement yet, what are your aproximate fix times?

I found an AntiStatic back almost the same size as the sleeve, just cut a couple of corners off so it looked prettier. So in effect is 2x layers of film.

Been using it for a couple of weeks, and fixes seem much faster - timed my Cold Start this morning, and a 6 Sat fix in 37 Seconds! - Impressive!

Finally installed the ipaq into the car and took it for a test drive today. With my homebrewed re-rad aerial and 4 layers of film I was locking upto 11 satellites with an average of 7 whilst mobile.

Not done any tests with and without the film - but the performance as it stands is extremely good and I'll probably take the view "if it ain't broke....".

TTFF is also less 1 minute.

As I type I'm rummaging around for an anti-static bag. I don't generally suffer from lack of reception, and had 11 at one point on my homeward journey today. Still, I will see how my TTFF times measure up.

Tried it tonight: Time now 1 mins 10 secs about a 10 second improvement. I may have a better bag to try next week. This one was more grey than silver. wonder if it makes any difference??

Thanks very much.

Bril, brill, BRILL.
My Navman 3400 + ipaq 3630 normally takes 1-5 mins from cold outside my house. Now Less than one minute and locks longer in dense folliage.
Have used 4 layers of antistatic bag.
This puts Navman to shame!
Also note I loaded SP2, A disaster! Talked to Navman and they stated it should only be used if you are running 2003!!!!!!!

If you can obtain 10 sats, you don't need a re-rad. An average fix for most receivers when cold is 50s to 1m 10s. Navman's tend to come in at around 1m 20s. 5-7 sats is usually fairly average.
