I have a TTG300 on order (for xmas) and I was just gen-ing up on the manual. Regarding 'Battery Notes' the manual states:

"We recommend that you fully charge TomTom GO the first time that you plug it in. Fully charging the battery will take around 2 hours."

also in the manual's FAQ:

"How do I charge the unit? (GO users only)
TomTom GO is normally charged whenever it's plugged into your vehicle's 12V electrical system using the supplied DC power lead. Note that if your engine is turned off then you may need to switch your vehicle ignition back into an 'Accessories' position. Consult your vehicle handbook. If you need to charge TomTom GO at other times, use the international AC adapter (5V), also provided."

The 'In the box' section on the tomtom website for the 300 doesn't show that you get an international AC adapter, only a link that one will cost €29.

So do tomtom expect me to go sit in my car for 2 hours while this thing charges before I can use it? Do I get an international charger or not?

You can get compatable mains chargers fairly easily.
Maplin does one for around £15

BHear in mind it's only a recommendation. You will get better battery performance if you do a full initial charge, but at the same time if you don't plan on using the battery much (ie, you'll normally have it plugged into the fag lighter), then you'll hardly notice a thing.

Thanks, after reading the review on this very website, I can assume the manual (online) lies! I have asked tomtom to explain this but I don't expect a reply of anything more than 'oops our mistake'.

Probably just a bit of accidental "cut and paste"ing by the manual writer?
The original Go *did* have a mains charger supplied, but they left it out of the 300/500/700 and now the One.
No reason other than being cheapskates AFAIK.

its 5v DC

Get one those universal adaptors (with the selectable voltage) or find a 12v adaptor you no longer need and buy a new ciggertette lighter from halfords and do a bodge wiring job.
