You miss the point entirely. Most portable TMC Nav solutions that use FM require a GPS Mouse with a cable and an additional 1m long FM antenna draped across the dashboard. Not quite bleeding edge tgechnology!
Those solutions include the TMC licence fee as part of the cost of the software regardless of whether you wish to use it or not. TomTom's solution is neater and requires you to pay for the service only if you choose to use it. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I suspect that this is all to do with formatting of the information. Tomtom do send you only the relevant traffic data to your journey (according to them), but that is really to keep the GPRS costs down.
My money would be on the probability that they have to take the ITIS data stream and re-format it in some way for the TTG.
Or, (I'll have two guesses then!) they didn't want to have an external FM aerial unit detracting from the "plug and go" simplicity of the unit.
Or, (I'll have 3 guesses then!) they perceived that the coverage of GPRS was better than Classic FM!
Cheers,

I'm waiting for the "killer" GPS:
3D display
Able to use PocketGPSW speed cam data
NavTeq
TMC
Neat wiring (ie 1 wire to an external aerial)
TMC via FM, IMO, is the best solution. BT/GPRS/£ is not ideal.
Did I get enough TLAs in there? |

I have to use XDAII for work and loses GPRS signal all the time ( going down the M11 is a classic example ). But I never lose Radio 2 or Classic FM.

Something is not quite right with your XDAII, unless you are driving at 100 mph. The fact that you not losing Classic FM doesn't mean much - RDS-TMC information is transmitted on a side band and this signal is weaker than the the main Classic FM one. |

I have had the QDAII for about four months and it has allways had a signal problem. I work as a courier with three others at my depot and we all have the same signal problems. It sits in a gps/ charger cradle so I cant reset it with the sylist I just use a bent paper clip. After the soft reset it may last all day and maybe not. We have within the company group several hundred couriers and talking to some of them I am not alone. What it needs is a twenty foot antenna. |

What it needs is some decent engineering, not some make-em cheap far-eastern design. |
