I've bought my son TT5 with BT GPS for Xmas but suspect he will have a problem operating in his 'W' reg Ford Focus Ghia with heated front screen.

Will he need a special antenna or not? Any thoughts welcomed.

Terry, I use far less capable GPS units in the Focus hire cars (with heated screen) that I have on a regular basis (note prior to the decent Holux 236 I know have, I was using a Fuzion unit and that is what I am refering to for comparison purposes - if the Fusion works then TT wil be fine) , I don't think there will be any problem at all - its a decent GPS unit so you should be more than OK - Mike

The heated screen may attenuate the signal slightly but it should be OK.

Furthermore, there is an area at the bottom corner of the screen that is free of the heating elements. Place the BT receiver in the corner of the screen - my wired GPS receiver works perfectly in this location on my Focus.

I thought it was the heat reflective screens that were the problem?

I use Tomtom 5 with a Palm PDA and a Globalsat BT-338 in my Ford Focus LX which has a heated front screen. The TTFF is quite impressive, it must be said and the unit maintains a good lock. If I recall correctly, the GPS unit with TT5 uses the same chipset, so should perform equally well.

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi,

I had a problem with a reflective front screen so I put the BT-GPS in the back window, works great...

I've been using the TomTom BT receiver under the front heated screen on my Seat Alhambra (same as the Ford Galaxy) and its absolutely fine.

I am sure its heat reflective windscreens which cause a problem, not heated windscreens. ie the signal will be reflected off the windscreen along with the nasty heat.
