TomTom doesn't use any space on the Hard Drive if that's what you meant, only in any Backup's you do and the best Safety Camera Database can be found here - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

Note: Do Backup first.

To expand on that: there is NO backup at the moment of your vital maps data - it is ONLY on the card, not on the CD supplied with the Go. So do a backup now, before you do ANYTHING (like adding the free speed cameras).

The CD allows you to back up your personal settings, and *may* (depending on which version of it you have) allow you to back-up the entire memory card.

Many people here started out when the CD utility DIDN'T back up everything, so have had to do it manually by connecting the Go to a PC via the USB lead, letting Windows see it as a new drive and then copying the entire contents of the card to a new folder on their PC's hard disk.
Its probably still the easiest method, if you are happy with copying and pasting files generally.

Cheers for the replies folks, it was just that i didn't know what the cd was for as it doesn't really say in the instructions, you know, like with my mobile eg, i had to load the cd rom for it in order for it to copy music, pics etc, basically to run the software innit?

Thanks for the link too! I will give it a look.

I actually had to send the thing back last night too, after using it for half day, there was a small mark on the screen to begin with, like it had been knocked or something, this got worse as the day went on, rainbow effect spreading over it when touching it, (LCD leaking??)
has anyone else had this trouble? Rolling Eyes

Hi again,
I downloaded the database ok to the PC, then tried to copy it into the ttgo 300 via usb. It said the disc was full, i take it this is the card? Confused

I then read that you must copy the files into the "Great Britain" section, again it said full, & to delete some files.

I deleted the "faces.dat" file from there to make space, should i have done this? i haven't a clue which i should delete to make space?? Embarassed I have made a back up so can easily restore it but it leaves no room for the camera database?? 8O

I then copied the datbase into this folder, but it does not come up in POI menu. Is it only the .ov2 files & .bpm files that should be copied over, leaving out all the other files such as .asc, .csv, f.wav, temp.wav, .wav, txt documents, .xls sheets?

Many thanks for all your patience!! :D

faces.dat is a key part of the map info!! Put it back.

If oyu need more room on the card. Remove the foreign voices you don't need. This can be done via the setup.exe on the CD (or upgrade). Or you can just trash the appropriate data**.chk and matching .vif files.

engm.vif and engf.vif with data04.chk and data05.chk are the English male and female voices. The rest can go. EXCEPT the main data.chk itself which carries the system sounds.

Well, I finally managed to make space for the cameras, (I think) by deleting some foreign voices thanks to sgould for that info :D , still don't know the right numbers for all the chk files etc as I haven't yet used the CD ROM.

I unzipped the database, found the folder named .0v2 bmp files, opened it & found about 10 or so files? Trying to remember this as I am now offshore. So i copied them into the "Great Britain" folder on the ttgo, safely removed it form the PC, switched it back on & "No Maps Found" on the display. It kept rebooting over & over, & saying no maps found. So i removed the cameras again, put everything back to original staus & it works ok again, minus the cameras ofcourse.
What have i or haven't i done?? A friend who has one suggested it may be that i have not yet registered it online wityh the number supplied on the card, & then this activates it? Could this be the problem?
Can't get to it for another two weeks now. Crying or Very sad

Ok so, any idea why it says no maps found when i copy in the ov2 & bmp files?? Is it the the correct files i have copied? There were 12 of them in the 0v2 bmp folder once i unzipped the database.
Really appreciate all the help. Rolling Eyes

I must have copied and pasted this list about five times in the last couple of days....

Here's what you need if you want the speed-zoned set.
