If say I wanted to go from my house to place x, and TomTom wants me to go via the main streets etc. But yet I know that the easiest way is via a few back streets to avoid traffic.
Is there a way to set it up as a favourite route or a predefined route to state which roads you actually want to use? |

The only way to do it is to set up an itinery, basically you need to set up a series of waypoints which TomTom navigates between. You may need more or less waypoints depending on how complicated your route is. |

Cheers for the reply Mark, sounds as though it could be complicated, but i'll give it a bash.
Thanks |

TomTom, or any sat nav system can never hope to replace local knowledge of an area. The maps can't even keep up with the physical reality on the ground never mind knowing that "there is a big queue at this junction at 4.00pm every day"
What I would like to see is an easier way to plan a custom route, preferably on a PC. One of the things I'd like to be able to do is plan out my own route in detail and then have TomTom take me that way, but it's not easy having to set various waypoints. |

Cheers both of you, I'll have a bash at the waypoints and will also try alternative, as i have always tended to use fastest and shortest routes. I've only had it just over a week so i'm still very new to all this but am already loving it
And I agree Mark, there should be an easier way to select your own route. But on the other hand TomTom probably see it as if you know your way then why buy a sat nav system but still it would be nice to have the option. |

You can export from Autoroute into a TomTom itinerary file - there have been a number of posts on that. _________________ Lutz

Indeed. I've no doubt TomTom just see the model as inputting your destination and away you go, which of course is fantastic!
However how I've always planned my journeys before sat nav is I look at a map and plan out my route using that, then when I'm driving try to remember which roads I was supposed to take! I'd like to have an equilvalent way of doing that but my sat nav remembers the route for me instead. |
