co pilot 6 upgrade

Having used both Tomtom 5 and Co-Pilot 5 I tend to agree with bazzer that the layout and functions are better on Tomtom

But with a Sat Nav system surely the most important function is to get you to you're destination. I found that with Tomtom this is very frustrating at times as the signal from the GPS is very poor.

I've tried many things to improve the signal but to no avail. Using Co-Pilot I never once lost the GPS signal.

I use a Mitac Mio 168 and looking at various forums this seems to be a problem with Tomtom and it is not only the Mitac Mio 168 that has this problem other PDA also suffer from a poor GPS signal.

Having seen the new Co-Pilot 6 it looks as if the layout and functions are better and I will be changing back to Co-Pilot simply for the reason that the GPS is a lot better

For what it's worth, my experience with CP5 and it's predecessor was OK. Routing and performance are very usable and the quality of maps and database is far superior to TT. I can't help thinking that some of the problems suffered by users maybe related to their configuration and when all said and done the Pocket PC OS is far from perfect. All of this combined with BT and serial port problems provides an environment which is difficult to control. I guess this does not excuse poor quality products and CP (like many other packages) has its fair share of faults but testing software on the myriad of possible platforms available is an impossible task. Show me a bug free software package and I'll show you a package that takes too long to get to market!!

As regards the upgrade I think it worthwhile; £99 for the European version is a reasonable deal.

I'm keen to see how well it uses landscape mode on my HP 4700!!

You will need your CP5 product key. I have yet to hear from them as yet, but I'm not in a hurry for it. However, I would vaguely expect them to want to repair the damage done by the non inclusion of "Traffic" within CP5 even though it was promised.

I will wait until someone has actually upgraded their CP4 to CP6 using my set up...IE Navman sleeve with iPaq 3950 with a CF Card. Until then, I will continue to use my TomTom Go 500 alongside my CP4. Can anyone from around the Wokingham area please tell me why the signal is so poor.

What I find strange about this forum, not just this post, is that there's no updates or response from ALK, which is a little surprising. If I remember correctly the founder member of this site, Dave, left to work ALK and surely he is aware of this negative feedback.

What I'm hoping is that with Dave's experience, he has been able to shape CoPilot V6 into a 'TomTom Killer', TT need knocking into shape, big time and have some proper competition....

Dave, I'm sure you are reading this.... please reply, and why has the team posted a review of V6 yet
