All the camera/red light data base is on the sd card.. why won't it show up on the 610?

Did you just copy the camera files over to the 610 or instqall them to it using Navman Desktop?

basically i used my v3 disc's/ maps from my 510 ( which work fine) and then put the poi's to the sd card whilst it was in my 510.. then i placed the card into the 610. I assumed the v3 maps and poi files in csv format would work in the 610. does that make sence..? I can get the maps to work but it won't show the poi's... but there on the card because when i place the card back in the 510 they come up..

I believe that the 600 series needs any custom POIs to be installed to the internal memory, not to the SD card. You can only do this by using the POIEditor which is built into the Navman Desktop.

You will need to install the Navman Desktop for the 610, which will be different from that for the 510. This is on CD1 of the 610 CDs.

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-navman.php

Hi there.....using the link above download the files and just follow the instructions......there is info on the .csv files and also something about the .bmp files?....I have downloaded the`all camera sites` file, followed the instructions from above link, and as long as I zoom in, I can see the GATSO icons at Aberdeen, however there are`nt too many here in the North of Scotland? and all this on the iCN610, but can`t wait to try it out sometime...will have to arrange a shopping trip to the Capital?

Anyhow...the 610 is brilliant so far...I like the `SPEED` otpion, keeps me advised as to when I`m over the limit, I have a Full clean licence, eveything from mopeds to C+E and PCV so cannot afford to get any points or lose my licence!!..........it talks, so I dont really need to see the screen.....its a fair sized unit, makes for easy to operation.

I have been out a few times in my local town, and have found that the 610 took me along other roads around the town to get back to my house. You have to remember that GPS is basically straight line navigation, so it may not appear to take the route you would normally take, but from the Data from the satelite and the data from the installed map, then it believes it is guiding you as quick and as straight a route as possisble........that said, my road is 8 Years old now and still does`nt appear on certain `up-to-date maps that you can buy in the shops, but the 610 has always got me to my house. Ive been using the 5 digit postcode to some good effect, but have pin pointed my house now and have inserted in the favourites file for easy quick guidance home. I also use a Cobra ESD950 9 channel Radar, to detect the mobile cameras, but again, if you understand how these things work and know their limits, and use them with caution, then its possible to drive without losing your licence using this additional technology.........

BTW, I`ve only had the iCN610 for ONE DAY, but I like it and expect to get a lot of use from it...........please note, NO INTERNAL BATTERY, so its not hand portable? and DOES have USB for firmware/map updates. You will probably need a 24 to 12 Volt converter if driving trucks? so far so good and only £170 from Currys, although the 610`s are being depleted by newer models!!

Hi chas921

Welcome to the forum.

You have a got yourself a bargain at £170, I notice that the Currys on line store do not list this item so I guess it was a managers special or something.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the product, and long may it last.

Dilemma........

Rgr that.....a few Days earlier I was impressed by a Garmin etrek `Legend` which put us back on track during a short road trip here in Scotland? I first saw the Navman 320 for £174 in `Tesco` but came across the 610 in Currys for a bit less...I was early at the shop and the `specialist` was not available, however having the USB and the bigger screen prompted me to buy. I had also requested to see the manual, and was told its all on CDRom?........anyhow, was`nt till I`d paid my money at the till and went home, did I discover the condition of the box?
So I suppose it was a special !! but I`m happy so far.
I`m unable to install any of the Maps from the CD Roms even though there is a key on the case.but I`m led to believe that I need the Pan European Key to unlock these maps from the CD`s for my personel use. Its a bit of a bummer really, but suppose its easy to have the disks, then just get a key by email.............but at a price?

Maybe Santa! or the internet will provide the unlocking key? Laughing
I`m still reading the manual, so maybe its just something Ive overlooked, but I think I`m right so far.

Hi Chas921

The manual is indeed on the CD but there should be a quick statrt leaflrt with the unit, but it is onlt basic info which lets you know how to turn on and fit the bracket to the windscreen etc.

As for the maps, they should come installed on a MMC card for the UK. The European maps are available at additional cost (around £100). So if you do not visit the continent save your money. When you load the desktop software you can recover the map registration info from Navmans registration server, and then back up you device again using the desktop software.

I trust that you did recieve the CD's? There should have been 4, 1 installation and 3 map cd's.

By buying the 610 unit in place of the 320, you are able to load all sorts of POI's, the speed camera sites being the most popular and they are avilable to download free from this site by following this link:
http://www.pocketgpspoi.com/downloads/pocketgps_uk_sc_oct05.zip

In addition you can download a whole raft of other ones from this link:
http://www.getoutguide.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/poidownloads/

Any problems shout, as there is enough help and experience on this forum to guide you through your problems.

Hi Dilemma........

I have installed the POI `all camera sites`
If you install the SPECS .csv alone you can save a .bmp for the specs cameras, but I cant seem to install the file that covers all the camera .bmp`for the `all cameras file. Do I have to install each file as a new POI with its own .bmp or just have one icon to cover all camera types?

I have spoken to NAVMAN about the in car power adaptor, and they tell me it can be used in a 24v system, as well as a 12v, this i tried as I am a coach driver and it worked great, and I aggree with all, the 610 is a great unit, no frills, but with the postcode update poi's gets me to the spot.

Cheers great news Madbrit. I was driving a coach only this week with the NAVMAN iCN610 in its case (due to the fact that the vehicle was 24 Volt!) I could have done with it mounted on the screen as I had to drive through unknown countryside without a map during a road closure here in Scotland, A Coach and Car collided with 1 fatality, hence the road closure so Police can carry out their investigations, and at night time? Also I`m sure someone thought it a practical joke to change the direction of one of the diversion signs???? the NAVMAN would have totaly helped!

And how about this...........I noticed other Day that during map mode it gives the numbers of the houses by ref to the Postcode data, which I think is bloody brilliant, especially at night. I remember as a fireman, its not easy to go direct to an address at night without going up someones path to see the address so that you can get your bearings??

*IMPORTANT* NAVMAN also advise that when using the CB000289A 12 Volt adaptor, YOU MUST START THE ENGINE FIRST BEFORE PLUGGING IN THE ADAPTOR if being used in a 24Volt situation. this will prevent the intitial 24Volt surge going through the adaptor. Then use as per instruction.

Take care now, and keep your eyes on the roads, not the navigator?

Hi Chas - and a belated welcome.
Routing can be a little strange at times - in a journey from Peterborough to Wiltshire - I was routed out via the Severn Bridge. I think it was keeping to motorways too much.
If you go into settings - then you can amend the preferences. I took a route knowing which way I would normally travel, and tweaked the settings until I got the route that I would have taken.

Maps - there are new maps and software out from Navman for this unit. The software is V3.5 - and the maps are the latest available. There are some enhancements - you can set up your home address as a permanent entry, not just in the favourites.

The keyboard is alphabetical and not qwerty layout (confusing for me!)
The roads have been updated - although there are always going to be some missing or errors which have changed since the last survey from the atlas people.
The maps are available from Navman - I think about £71 including postage.

Enjoy the Navman - I have been impressed on its route finding capabilities over the past year - also the Estimated Time of Arrival is great!
