What are .inf files

I hope this is the right forum for this.
I have installed the speed camera files as per instructions onto a iPaq 3970, 2 files per POI subject. However I now seem to have a third file apart from the ov2 and the bmp files, an inf file. Is this right or has the format changed.

Aren't they driver files?

I scoured for other posts about this and apprently they are not required and can be deleted.
