Crying or Very sad

I've just bought a TomTom GO 500 a few weeks ago, and after exchanging it due to a dead pixel I've decided to add the PocketGPSWorld Speed Camera POIs.
I've followed the 'how to' as best I can (I'm on Mac so slightly different).
I copied the omv and bmap files intot the Great Britain Map folder then disconnected properly.... thing is my TomTom now doesn't want to switch on!!!
It continously cycles from the initial start u page (image of tomtom uploading) to the black screen and logo to a map page with WELCOME TO TOMTOM GO 500. But says it can't detect a GPS device then switches off and starts again!
I had backed up the SD card.

One thing I did notice pror to my attempt - last night whilst navigating with the tomtom it switched off and restarted (just once) for no apparent reason.

Do i have anothe duff unit?

please help!

You could try pressing the reset button. Insert a straightened out paperclip into the hole underneath and press it in and hold it for a few seconds. This will reset the processor.

The GO needs a couple of megabytes of free space on the card for temporary files. If you have loaded too much, it may give the symptoms you describe.

If you have made a full backup of the original before you started, clear the card, reload the original stuff, remove unnecessary foreign voices and add the cameras again.

If you have no backup, remove the cameras and see if it works. If OK, remove voices and add cameras.

Otherwise, see if you can salvage the map folder and contents to the Mac. Then reinstall the system software 5.201 - free down load as .dmg file from the TT site www.tomtom.com and put the map back. remove the voices.

If still no good, you will need to ring TT on 0845 161 0009 and they will ask for proof of purchase and should exchange the card for a nominal(?) fee.

Cross post!

Get rid of unused voices anyway. It seems like you are near the card limit. If you put in a long journey, or store several itineraries you may fill the card again and cause it to crash.

thanks guys - this all makes sense except that i've not added anything else to the card (other than the cameras) - I've only stored my HOME and 3 FAVOURITES. Is the card that close to it's limit straight out of the box?

I think I may have copied too many camera files over - one of the other folders (speed zoned) on the PocketGPSWorld download contained more osv and bmap files which I assumed I needed (the bmaps are '30' '50' mph etc ) - I don't need these right?
second time around I left these off and now it works fine Smile

thanks again

I have this list on my GO. You need these AND all the matching .bmp files to get a full speed zoned set. It's the speed zoned ov2 and bmp fies plus the redlight, specs and temp ones from the "ov2 bmp" folder.

And YES, c7, the supplied card IS that close to being full!

I did as suggested and removed all the foreign language voices. That leaves enough room for the speed-zoned cameras, the alternative bmp icons, and a few Mbytes of "working space" for the Go
