Phone compatibility

I wrote to Tomtom a few days ago and asked about there policy on testing for phone compatibility.

Does anyone know what criteria is used i.e. does the phone company go to tomtom or do tomtom just go down to a shop every now and then?

Does anyone know how often the list is updated? Is it likely to be next week / / month /year.

I bought a K750i in July on the basis that the tomtom recognised it in the shop albeit the tomtom asked for the mounting bracket. I do not want to replace that phone with something inferior but am at a lost to know how long it will be until I can use the full features of my Tomtom on an acceptably up-to-date phone.

I think a part of the problem is that the phone manufacturers keep chaning the firmware on their phones and TomTom are struggling to keep up. I've had a fairly irratic time using my Go and Nokia 6230, sometime it works, others it doesn't and after chaning firmware on my phone, it got worse............it's crazy!

There are several threads now about the K750i (try a search :D ). You will probably receive the standard response from TT that the phone is not compatible referring you to the website. There appears to be an issue with sonyericsson's bluetooth implementation, that SE don't seem to want to acknowledge. TTG are reported to be working on the problem, but without SE's co-op I doubt a fix will be forthcoming.

The main problem is bluetooth is a bag of shite. It promised so much, but manufacturers don't want to test like 802.11 manufacturers do, and like to implement things just slightly differently.

The result is a mess of incompatabilities and frustration. I've had about 4 BT phones. All different. None of them work properly. Meanwhile the non-phone devices are just as bad if not worse.

flylikeahandbag my post was misleading I am happy to pass the 750 onto the wife if there was something similar e.g. 2mb camera & mp3 player which would actually work.

I have given up on the 750 and just want to know when the next update to the compatibility list is likely to be issued.

All very disappointing - bluetooth obviously not an actual standard.
