Apologies for long question:
I just bought a "Previously Owned" iCN610 from Dixons Duty Free at T4 LHR. £180
On switching on and investigating I find the UK maps on the SD card but they cannot be "ticked" by the OK button. I can only access the base maps.
On setting up the S/W on PC and doing a lot of tinkering via the Desktop software I find that the SPANISH maps may be downloaded but not the UK. UK stays Blue at all times, Spain green (on the map selection screen). 8O
If I try to activate a UK map it asks for a key, if I say I have a key I get a screen where the first character of the key is forced as "R". If I give it a key (see next paragraph) it makes no difference.
Retrieving info from the website yields a list of 3, maybe 4 keys. the first two match the keys on my CDs (in the usual format), the 3rd / 4th is in the format Rxx-xxx-xxxxx-xxxxx => yyy-yyy-yyyyy-yyyyy. I have tried re-entering all keys, and using the "R" version to activate the UK maps. No luck.
Lots of phone calls to Navman, basically no idea how to fix, the serial number identifies the unit as a UK device, but they admit that sometimes adding keys screws up the old ones. And they cannot (they say) alter the keys in the database once registered.
So, 3 options:
1. Take it back to Dixons. But I like the device, I don't like 3D maps (I know how to read maps the old way!), I got it for a good price...
2. Buy maps... I am "lucky" in that the new 2005 maps are released next week so I can buy the whole of Europe (might as well, eh?) and fix it that way. £100-£150 more tho...
3. Find a genius on this site that is smarter than most!!! :D
Anyone up to be option 3? Otherwise a week of playing with Base Maps then option 2...
Thanks in advance...
PS I did format my SD card at one point as part of the "tinkering"... So no maps on the SD card right now...
PPS, Navman Tech Support tried very hard to be helpful... I'll give them credit for that. :P
