So, you've downloaded the new PocketGPSWorld.com data.chk file. This should have the name "5158_new.data.chk"

Link your Go up to your PC and then:

1) Find your original data.chk file. You will find this in the root directory (i.e. not in any folders) of the SD card.

2) Rename it on the SD card to something like "originaldata.chk". You can also copy it to your hard disk drive for safety.

3) Copy the downloaded "5158_new.data.chk" onto the root of the SD card (i.e. not in any folders).

4) Rename this file to "data.chk".

5) Disconnect, allow the Go to re-boot, and you are finished.

No problem....
The Tomtom's operating system "looks" for a file with the name "data.chk" and then uses the information it finds there (i.e. the sound files in this case).
If we could get into the Tomtom's brain and tell it to look for a different file name that would work too, but this way is much easier!

In the same way, if you want to put a spash screen picture onto your system, the Go looks for a file called "splash.bmp". So long as the file it finds is in the right format, it doesn't care what the picture actually is.
