Hi ya
I use external antena on my GO classic all the time in london,it's much better than the go's internal reciver in built up areas. :D
Im not sayin that you will never lose the signal useing the external, because you will at some points, but i have found it only happens a few times a day, 2 to 3 times at most.
Yes it's magnetic, nice strong hold and can be removed easy.
hope this helps :D

You should also take a look at re radiating antennas.

Still has the magnetic antenna but then uses an internal antenna to transmit the signal inside the car.

These are suitable for moving from car to car as the antenna is not physically connected to the TT. One disadvantage is that they need power so need plugging into cig lighter socket.

Incedentally I use a TT external ariel and don't actually have the antenna outside the vehicle.

My Mondeo has a heated screen and it works just fine on the dash near the A pillar (no heating elements there).

I've recently installed the antenna on the rear parcel shelf (semi permenant installation) and it also works fine there.

From the inital tests I did there was a negligable difference in signal strength with the antenna on the roof or on the dash/parcel shelf.
