We are in discussions with some major companies about sponsoring the next PocketGPSWorld.com meet. The only firm fact we have at the moment is that it will be in Basingstoke.

We have listened to feedback from the people who attended in Wales, and this time we will be holding the biggest and best meeting to date. Not only will we have most of the major SatNav manufacturers there, but this time we will be having a workshop area where we will show you how to load POIs etc. We will also be having some companies selling equipment and software on the day.

We are looking at holding it on either the 19th or the 26th of November.

More importantly we are looking for a location to hold it in. Do any of you know anywhere in or around Basingstoke that would be suitable. What we need is a hall or rooms capable of holding 400-500 people, easy access for pedestrians, close to a mainline station , and lots of parking. We would ideally like a location where we can get a car and a bike inside.

Looks like it will be the 26th as Darren cant do the 19th.

All we need now is a venue. Thanks to a couple of Basingstoke locals who have PMd me we have quite a number to sift through.

26th suits me too as the 19th is the wife birthday - I don't think a 250 mile hike from here would go down to well - Mike

Good and all that, just 20 miles from home for me, so I'll be there. Have you thought of The Anvil, the theatre complex just down from the train station, they have several rooms other than the auditorium, large, larger and smaller, yards from a huge car park (lots of them). Don't know about getting a vehicle inside though. See: http://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/leisure/arts/theatres/anvil.htm

26th is good for me too, but Mike, I think you'll have to leave the car at the front desk. Not many hotels will let you have a bike inside, let alone a full sized car!

Perhaps a car showroom or the NEC at Birmingham but that's the only ones I know of that will permit that kind of thing Laughing

I don't know of any hotels in Basingstoke myself, but doing a quick search pulled up http://www.tylneyhall.co.uk/index.html (not quite Basingstoke but Hook).

We've now got a venue in mind, we'll be conducting a recce sometime this week and if it's Ok we'll announce the details.

p.s. Dave, they're convention suite is capable of accomodating a vehicle!

Would you like to show my motorbike at your meeting?

I have a XJR1300 with the following setup:

HX4700
Tomtom 5
Otterbox 1900 case
Ram mount
Bluetooth receiver under the seat
Wireless headset in/on helmet

I'm assuming you will be showing the Tomtom Rider it may be nice to see an alternative setup. Anyway I'm happy to bring it along if you want to show it...

Cheers,
Noony

Thanks for the offer, I'll need to establish how much space we will have before accepting but yes if there is room we'd be interested. The only caveat is that often with these things, usually the hotel would require you to have the bike in before a certain time and could not leave until a set time.

Did they mention how much of the car you had to take apart first though ? Laughing

I'm amazed, never heard of hotels allowing a car in a conference suite. Most usually don't like it because you upset their nice carpet, and most conference suites aren't really that big.

In that case, perhaps we could bring the CoPilot mini along too ? Wink

Sorry only proper cars allowed. Unless of course it is a '60s Mini Cooper S.

Unusually this venue is geared up for car launches, the types dealers attend so they have a suite with easy access and are happy to permit a vehicle.
