Hi, Sad

Not too impressed with the TTG700 having just got it and been to Portugal where a dismal amount of detail is available.

Still, life is full of dissapointments! One thing that is proving a problem for me back in the UK is programming a route via a particular road or Motorway. I want to go from down South to up North via M42 and M6 Toll and then the M6 but the TT doesn't want to offer me the Toll road even when it is marginally faster (and I know that for real it will be hugely quicker). I have the Toll option set to 'ask me' but it doesn't even consider it. The only way to force it that way is to go through the hassle of setting a VIA using the map to find the M6 Toll (making sure it is on the correct side of the carriage way or it goes bananas) and then it will offer it as an option.

There has to be an easier way! I tried the alternative route option but it makes too many other changes to the rest of the roads which it got correct first time.

Can anyone suggest a better way please?

Rgds,

If your going to use this route as a preference on a number of occasions then only way is to create an itinery with the end point, presumably home, and the roads you want as way points. Save the itinery and you can call it up at any time.

Unfortunately fastest journeys don't take account of traffic flows. If a route has 2 alternatives both are same speed then the shortest would be chosen even though the alternative might be faster due to less traffic.

Just a limitation of the system really unless we have live traffic flow info fed to the TT then we can't expect the route to be chosen to take this into account.

There are ways around it

Method 1

Plan a route
Find Alternative
Travel Via > Birmingham > M6 Toll > Anywhere

Find Alternative
point on map
Click the Mag Glass
Birmingham > M6 Toll > Anywhere

Go a bit up it and then click it and then ok.

Method 2

Plan Route
Find Altenative
Avoid Part of Route
Avoid the Road you dont want (not rearlly applicable in this case)

Method 3

Itinery Planning
Use the point on map and select the M6 Toll Road
then choose any other roads you WANT to travel down
then add your destination...
Click al the previous destinations and choose SET AS WAYPOINT

Usinng this one means you can complelty plan your route going via as many roads of POIs as you want along the way ;)

You could use the Motorway Junctions POI I created. Use it to Go Via > M6 6N and it will route you via that Junction.

You can download it from http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oldboy/TomTomPOI/MWay.zip

Thanks Folks,

Great suggestions and I will try them all... I just wish that (for over £500) TT could have come up with a via M6 Toll (or any other preferred road) option. Surely not beyond the wit of man or software engineers?
