One thing I notice, though, is how few women post here. Is it because they use satnav or the internet less than men? I can't be that unusual - a 63-year-old female gadget freak!! But then I suppose they do call them Boys' Toys.

Welcome Anita! Welcome

Yes, you are right, there are currently only a small percentage of women using the forum.

This is however set to change with SatNav going mainstream. You boys are gonna have to start behaving yourselves soon Wink

No, Oldboy, I am very happy with the i3. No regrets at all. We were just asked what we thought would make it even better, and these were my two small improvements.

And thanks for the welcome, robbrady!

Anyway, the icing on the cake for me would be speed options on the simulator, even if it's only two - a driving speed and a faster route-checking speed. Or personally I'd be happy to lose the driving speed and just have the fast one.

You could always choose no to the simulation, do the review turns, THEN press the wheel, and you get the turn by turn directions, the map view at the turns, and the distance summary at the end.

Thanks, Lester. I hadn't tried pressing the wheel in Review Turns, so hadn't found that option. That's a big help.

I'm getting more impressed with this little beast (and this forum!) all the time! Love it

Before my original GO was stolen Evil or Very Mad i managed to change the warning tones to voice prompts ie : GATSO and RED LIGHT which was great ! , i really miss that , it would be a nice addition to the I3

Improvements that I'd like to see:-

An audio output socket so that it can be used with a headset or connected to an Autocom for use on a motorcycle.

Being able to download Lat/Long of stored Favourite points or generate a POI file on a PC.

Make road preference (Navigation/Avoidance) more sophisticated with an option to avoid only Motorways, rather than all Highways. This would be a boon for bikers, most of whom hate having to ride on motorways. The ability to change the average speed rating of various road types could also be useful.

How on earth is that a software enhancement?

And do you really think anything is going to physically change in the i3? It's a budget unit, they are hardly likely to do anything more with from a hardware perspective.

This thread is all about possible software enhancements. But living in the real world, I wouldn't have thought that anything involving notable development time is going to be considered.

Have you tried easygps?

Realistically, are they likely to do much development on routing, when it seems a number of people, here, have already noted and discussed "issues" with the i3s current routing?

Isn't that more a mapping / Navteq thing, though?

Yeh, so what? It hardly seemed worth starting another thread, so I thought that I'd mention it here. Quite a few owners that are using the i3 on motorcycles are doing this mod themselves.

No. Does that give Lat/Long coords for reporting new camera locations etc?

Lester_Burnham wrote:

I thought that the average speed for the road types was governed by selecting the vehicle type under Navigation/Vehicle. Isn't that part of the software?

OK then, completely ignoring the subject line for a second - do you seriously think Garmin are going to do any hardware redesigns or retrofits for the i3?

Don't you think they may find a better return on their investement elsewhere - especially given where the i3 is targetted.

Indeed, it does give lat/long co-ordinates.

Well you said:-

galaxy111 wrote:

And given that the speed rating of the ROAD is defined in the mapping, I think it's quite unlikely.

And given that there are options for numerous different vehicles on the i3, which may well imply average speeds on certain classes - but quite likely implies more than simply the average speed, I'm kinda wondering how more granular that can get.

Presumably, you mean you'd like to be able to specify your average speed on the types of roads classified in the maps, but given that the i3 is aimed at the budget market, I suspect it's unlikely they are going to add much more in the way of features.

Perhaps their time would be better addressed with the numerous people finding anomalies in the routing, than by making the features more like an upmarket sat nav.

Yeh, Ok, what ever you say!

I've added my comments on the improvements that Id' like to see and we'll leave it at that, shall we? Whether that fits in with your views or not, quite honestly, I couldn't care less.

I suppose I should have added - YMMV, IANAL, FWIW, IMHO, ROFL, etc.

Hi,

It would be useful when you have added "via" points, for the first stage to be a blue line, and the second stage to be a red one.

Sometimes the two red lines overlap as it stands which causes confusion.

I would have thought that this option would come as standard, quite simply because if you come across an accident you can inform the emergency services of your precise location even if you are in the middle of nowhere.

I think it would useful (and I would have thought quite a simple change) to be have the ability to display your current location as lat/long. You could then use this to add exact locations e.g. new safety cameras to your own custom poi files or submit to pocketgps for inclusion in theirs.

i agree, this would be useful. for any places rather than just safety camera's.

Fully Agree, if watching, can we have this please Garmin? As I have two units it would be nice to update one custom POI with co-ords from the unit that I can load into both with POIloader. Also, if do a full reset, entries that you add by pressing and holding the wheel will be lost, yet if possibility to write them into a custom POI then you can just upload again.

Option to toggle priority of audible directions and proximity warnings - so that you can decide which you'd rather override the other - ie if your more concerned about proximity warnings, they can take precedence - and conversely, if you'd rather not have voice directions being nullified in favour of proximity warnings you get the choice.
