Hello,

I have an HP iPaq 2750 running TomTom 5 with Globalsat BT-338.
TomTom recognizes my GPS and provides most of the routing
functions (to specific addresses, POIs etc.).

However, it refuses to navigate to a specified GPS location.
When I select "Navigate to ...", the "GPS position" option is
shown in gray color and cannot be selected. Another (probably
related) problem I experience is that I cannot store the current
GPS location in Favorites. Selecting "Add favorite", and then
"GPS position" **always** yields the following error message:
"No usable locations near GPS position". I tried this in many
different places, but the function never works.

Finally, in the Main Menu, I always get a warning notice in the
bottom left part of the screen (in the blue area below the menu
itself) that says "No valid GPS signal!". Again, TomTom does
recognize my GPS and can use it for navigation to addresses.
The GPS status window also shows GPS to be working (the GPS is
configured in TomTom as "Other Bluetooth GPS"), so this
warning notice is quite strange. I think it might be the reason
I experience the above problems with navigating to / using
specific GPS locations.

Any ideas ?

Thank you in advance !

Is your PDA connected to the GPS and receiving a good signal at the time you are trying this? You will get this when your GPS is not connected...

Yes, as I said TomTom does recognize my GPS and can navigate to addresses, POIs etc.

OK. The point I was making is that you need a fix from your GPS before you can navigate to a GPS position. Some people would try it without first getting a fix. Not in your case though then....

The GPS Position Icon returns the co-ordinates of your current location, if it's got a sat lock, and therefore you won't be able to Navigate to ...... your current position as you are already there.

Because TT is a road navigation device, it is always looking to lock your position to the nearest road it can find in it's maps. If the map does not have a useable road, according to the map data, you will get that error message.

Thanks for the clarification - I actually thought this option would allow me to enter Lat/Long coordinates that I'd like to navigate to. Is there such an option in TomTom ?

If you are looking at GPS for walking, it would be worth looking at Memory Map. I use both all the time when on holiday.

You could possibly do it at the entrance of the Car Park. Not ideal, but might help.

Just had a thought when answering another post.

Specifically on the TT, Browse Map > Find GPS Position > Add as POI (or Favourite).

It doesn't work like the Navigate to .... menu. You can put a POI anywhere on the map, and TT may not be able to Navigate there, but you would see it on the Map.

Thanks to everybody for your informative replies !
I actually thought of using a PocketPC version of POI Manager to create POIs with desired Lat/Long coordinates on the fly, but the option to modify "itn" files is probably way easier.

Thanks again !
