|
|
Please can somebody help me.
I bought navigator 5 two weeks ago in preparation for a trip to France and Italy from the UK.
Unfortunatly my PDA failed yesterday and is being replaced.
I understand that TT activation is device specific but have been unable to contact Tom Tom at all.
Is there any chance that I will be able to activate with my origanal code on the new PDA? We are going at the end of this week
Having spent £270 on the software maps and GPS device I am appaled at Tom Toms total lack of support. |

Look at the post directly above this about contacting TomTom. You will have to ring them, the number is in my post. Persevere with ringing, it sometimes takes a while.
I presume you have gone to their activation page and tried to do it through there already. I think the link is http://www.ttcode.com
They are very helpful normally, once you get through.

As I understand it you can load navigator on 2 PDA's but have to wait seven days to activate second one. |

Thanks Doug
I should have read your post first . I have just tried ringing the UK number --that just kept cutting me off. I have also emailed them but not had a reply.
Robbie
I just hope what you have said is right, the new PDA comes tomorrow I will post on what happens.
I just want Tom Tom working by Friday |

Robbie, I think you are wrong about the two PDA's. Certainly on my Treo 650, I had to read them the new phone IEME number and get a letter from Orange to say my phone was duff before they would reactivate it. Then I rang them and they did it over the phone.
May be wrong with a PDA but it is done to stop software piracy.

An email reply will be a long time coming...... The phone, although a 0845 number, is answered in Amsterdam although it is still a local call. Just persevere with the ringing. You might want to get a letter faxed to you from whoever is changing your PDA to say it is an exchange, if at all possible. Just pre-empting what they might ask you tomorrow. You'll also want the product code from the card in your software box and the code it generates when trying to get it activated.

Thanks very much for the advice.
Is it as good to phone the UK number as the Netherlands one you posted earlier?
The firm sending the PDA have said it will be sent as new, so will ask them for doucumentation. |

Sorry, what I meant was, that although you ring the 0845 number, it will route you through to Amsterdam which is where TomTom are based. You won't know the difference though.
If you get a message and then a cut off, just keep trying until you get a message to say you are fifth in the queue. Then stay there and you will move down the list. Don't hang up, you'll lose your place and might not get through again.
Best of luck

May be different for a PDA then. Certainly for my mobile phone, it would allow only one activation on one product. I had to ring to give them the details of my replacement phone before they would give me my activation number.
Be interested to see what happens when he tries to do it. Would love to be proved wrong.

New PDA arrived today but they had sent the wrong one. Hopefully yhe correct one will arrive tommorow.
I finally managed to get through to TT this lunchtime.
Just as you said Doug was in a 5 person queue. In fact it only took 20 mins to get to the top. They were very helpful and want me to fax the details afert that they will send the activation code by email.
Do your get faxed back or sent by email? |

I don't know how long the email system takes. If I were you, as you want it so quickly, I would fax the details they want through to them, leave it a few hours, then ring up again and ask if you can authenticate by phone. They did it for me and it's painless.
Let us know how you get on. Wonder how the other chap got it on two PDS's.
Regards

Result..
I now have replacement PDA and Tom Tom working OK.
Despite what Tom Tom said yesterday and what it says on the web site, I did not have to send the proof of the iPAQ being a replacement.
When I had installed and entered my device code and product code I was issued with an activation code that worked.
Perhaps it was because I had the GPS unit on and they could tell I was at the same address or is that way too far fetched.?
Much thanks fo all the help and advice.
Venice here we come. |

If you log into ttcode.com as I did - you'll probably see that you now have two devices listed as I stated in a previous post.
You would now have to show proof of purchase if you happen to change pda a third time.
It's happened to me! |
