sorry if this is illegal,i hope not, but user can upgrade the bt-338 to firmware 3.1.1 at home with a bluetooth adapter, i did it myself and it works.

I don't think it's illegal (the official upgrade is free of charge) however I could imagine it's pretty risky to do it yourself - you might fry the receiver in the process. Some early batches are not upgradable at all because they seem to miss the bootloader code. (Those receivers are physically replaced)

Do you have some more details?

it's very simple !! just do a serial connection from pc to gps and then execute the update. I don't think it's dangerous , but it's only my opinion. I did it and i'm happy Laughing Out Loud

Was yours the English version as the one i downloaded was French

The official line from GlobalSat is that the upgrade is a return to base modification. That is not to say that you cannot try it yourself, but that if you do and you trash the reciever it will not be covered by the warranty.

Is it worth the risk? If you really must have the update why not contact your local distributor and see if they can offer the service to you.

I guess less than 400 as those are the ones that will not be upgraded this way. I also think that these are the demo ones as well....
