Can anyone out there please help.

I'm new to bluetooth gps and my hx4700 gives this message when I try to connect to a Holux 236 gps.

"Waiting for Device"
Unable to establish a connection. Please make sure the device is enabled and in range. Also verify that the requested service is available

I was following the guidance notes from the TomTom website support
"How to manually configure TomTom Navigator 5 for Bluetooth GPS receivers"

All was going well until the above message

I'm totally stuck and don't know what to do next, I have a PDA and a GPS receiver who wont talk to each other, any help would be very much appreciated

Before you try this in TomTom you need to make sure the PDA can talk to the receiver. Is the GPS listed in the BlueTooth manager? Have you conencted to its serial port service?

Checked the Bluetooth manager.

The Holux 236 device shows up in the list and now when I select the device and press connect, its seams to make a connection without any error. Which is not what it did before.

In the "Active Connections" tab the holux 236 SPP slave shows up in the Outgoing connections but the incomming connections is blank.

Thats about as far as I have managed to get.

Regards

Very well. Outgoing is all you need. Go to Bluetooth settings and verify what the outgoing port is (can be anything from COM5 to COM8) - you then need to specify this port in TomTom

in TomTom, set the receiver to "other BT" and select the port "Bluetooth Serial Port COM8:" (you may have to scroll the list to see that)

I don't quite know how I did this but I now have a gps signal. I had to go through the process a number of times and do a soft reset as the pda hung a number of times.

The holux 236 is flshing both the lights for the bluetooth and the I assume the satalite pick up, is this normal as there are no help documentation in the box it came in.

One other thing, will the connection be picked up by the 4700 the next time i run TomTom ??

depends on yor Bluetooth settings more than on TomTom. If the Holux is your only GPS device then you can disable the BT Browser - it will then always connect to the Holux.

Are you running TTN5.1 ?

No just TomTom 5.0, I loaded v5.10 but I lost quite a number of POI's, the catagories where still there but they were empty, so I uninstalled 5.10 and went back to 5.0.

I put a query out on the TomTom 5.0 forum but didnt get a reply.

Would I be better off just instaling 5.10 and accept the problem with the POI or stay with 5.0.

Do you know if there is a manual for the 236 as the flashing lights on the unit must mean something.

I really apprecciate your time and effort in helping me with these problems

Orange Flashing obtained gps sat
Blue flashing BT on
Green light on Batt charging
Green light off Batt Fully charged

I updated to TT5.1 and when you start TT the BT on the PDA starts and when you exit TT the BT on PDA shuts down as it should

hope this helps

I would recommend you install 5.10 as it fixes the BT switchoff issue (TTN5 switched BT off when you exit it, even if it was switched on before TTN5 was started. TTN5.1 restores the status of BT after exiting)
