does anyone know if it's possible to formatt the sd card in the tomtom go via a program for windows xp or do i need to buy a card reader??as what's happened is i tried backing up my sd card through the tomtom software and it failed, then my tomtom would freeze on the start up logo,it does seem i have a back up on my computer, its just that it shows exactly the same files that are still on my sd card,i thought if i formatt the card and then install the back up it might work??

Yes you can format the card in the TTG. If you Right-Click the TomTom drive one of the options is to Format.

If you have the standard GB map you should have about 120MB backed up on your PC. The Maps are the important bit, the V5 software is free and readily available.

i've sorted it at last, tomtom wouldn't format properly,it just kept failing,so went out and bought a card reader, formatted the disc and then reloaded the original copy that the cd made when it it up and it now seems to work.i just wish the cd had said not to try and backup if you have version 5.0 which i had installed at the time.
