Firstly apologies..
Grandad has a Tom Tom 300 all in one unit which he expects to work faultlessly which I am sure they do.. I am the poor so and so with the Internet connection for his upgrades. I do not possess a sat nav unit and feel there should be stringent laws against you supplying the older generation with these units!!...
His current setup is that he has the Europe Maps on a 1GB chip and the UK Roadmaps and Major Roads of Europe on a 128 chip. Now this latter chip is currently running version 4.2 and the upgrade goes to 5.02. as we, sorry he only has 856064 bytes spare on this chip, when we try to load the upgrade we are informed that there is not enough room on the chip.
Has anyone a solution to this... Is there something on the 128 chip he can, sorry I can delete to get him upgraded...
Any help would be much appreciated..
Thank you

You can delete any unused foreign voices. Either do it on the GO.
Or you can delete the relevant dataXX.chk and .vif files that hold the voices.
If you just want to keep the English male and female voices, get rid of all EXCEPT:
engm.vif
engf.vif
data04.chk
data05.chk
DO NOT DELETE THE UNNUMBERED data.chk file itself - that contains the warning sounds and other noises. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Deleting voices is the key as stated by sgould. But, use the original CD application to do this - simply because you can be certain which voices you are deleting and which you are leaving.
My GO classic uses original SD, has only Tim's voice, speed camera database, a few other POI databases and runs with no problems at all. _________________ GO 700 App 6.520 WE Map v568.0

Run the setup from the CD. One of the options is to add/remove voices. USB lead in and the GO connected to the PC.
You can also do this from the setup program that updates to 5.201
If he has a 300 his CD will not have a backup of any maps. Make a full backup of his SD card onto your PC before you do anything else, if you haven't done this already. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Many thanks to all that contributed, Grandads Tom Tom is now a 5 point 2 something and he is away on his travels to no doubt return when there is another update..
Oh and for those of you at home and if you follow the CD instructions to remove the voices, take the CD out before you try and upgrade..!!!!!
Thanks again.. |
