Ok, but only if you live in the US
Customers owning BT-338 GPS receivers with serial numbers between 400 ~ 28,000 are eligible for this free elective firmware upgrade. Your BT338 must be returned to the Service Center for the upgrading re-programming, a function that that requires special equipment and therefore cannot be performed by the end-user.

This upgrade is not required if your BT338 is performing with satisfactory results within your applications.

THIS FIRMWARE UPGRADE WILL:

o Correct “Time/ Date” that may appear on certain units.

o Correct the “Jet-Lag” symptom causing an excessive delay in the
“Time-To-Fix” on certain units.

o Allow the SiRF III chipset to be WAAS capable. Can be activated via the “GPS Info” utility software. *

THIS FIRMWARE UPGRADE WILL NOT:

o Change the current function of the “Auto Shut-Off” to activate after 10min if no Bluetooth connection is present to conserve battery life.

A post on the gpspassion forum said that you can check firmware version as it is displayed if you do a factory reset.

Any idea what happens to us in the UK?

I only purchased my BT338 a few weeks ago.

I have contacted the company I purchased from, but so far no response from them... Sad

I have checked the firmware in my BT338 and it is the old original version.

I just checked the globalsat page again and it has changed since I last looked at the start of the week.

It now has a page on international customers. :D

I have contacted Easydevices in the UK for the upgrade details and cost.

I will post back when I hear from them.

Hi Sean,

Can you confirm that the upgrade is £7 now, but will increase to £16.99 from 1st September.

How about a discount for PocketGPS Forum members?

Thanks,

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

To confirm. The price for the firmware upgrade is £0 + S/H until 1st
September, This will then change to £9.99 + S/H after that date.

£7 will cover the S/H (shipping & handling).

Same price for everyone (newbies and oldies): £0. However, what we will do is to continue the free offer to Forum members until 1st October 2005 (THIS EXTENDED OFFER IS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS FORUM).

What to do next
Just use the link in the post above to request your firmware upgrade and
then follow the instructions shown on the information page.

Please also supply the serial number of your device when placing your order
and enter the worlds "PocketGPS" in the comments box when checking out.

I just applied for the upgrade and came up as "£8.23"

It seems the £7 is before VAT is added!

Replying to my own post - just noticed at the bottom of the easydevices page "All Prices Exclude VAT"

A very quick update before I leave for my holiday, I sent my unit Saturday lunch time, received email confirmation of receipt Monday morning, email notification of despatch tuesday, arrived this morning. Great service, I cannot comment on the firmware upgrade yet, but had experienced problems previously.

What was strange is they included a print out of the update process, it appeared to be a DOS utility talking on COM port 7, which would indicate not special hardware, just a standard DOS flash tool. Why not make this available?

Good news on the quick delivery.

The question is how is the serial connection done to the module?

If the connection is done by bluetooth then I see no reason why they couldn't release the SW.

It may be that they have to disassemble the module in order to make a physical connection to a UART in order to perform the upgrade.

Ordered my free update today! - thanks EasyDevices! :D

A question to EASYD2 if I may...

I don't suppose the upgrade changes the fact that the NMEA data stream almost certainly uses the Ellipitical Altitude rather then the (more normal?) Above Sea Level Altitude?

If not, do you know if there is a way to change this, perhaps through SirfDemo? Its a bit disconcerting to be on the beach with the combination of the BT-388 and MemoryMap saying I am at 200ft! Other than this altititude discrepancy the BT388 is great!

Thanks, Jim
