Itineray Planning in TTN5

What I need from TTN5 is the ability to create an itinerary starting from a point other than my own location and then view the calculated route in order to be able to make any necessary alterations.

This can't be done in TTN5 unless you have a GPS fix and then the start point is your current location only. This is a major limitation of TTN5 and until TomTom provide a solution here is one that works. It's not exactly what you would want to be doing on the road but, sat at home in an armchair with plenty of time and patience, here it is:

You need a copy of GpsGate Standard, not the Express version, installed on the Pocket PC. Set up a common virtual port in both GpsGate and TTN5 so that TTN5 will receive the GpsGate output.

Now create an itinerary in TTN5 and save it. Open the itinerary in a text editor (see note below) and write down the Longitude and Lattitude from the first line of the itinerary. Then insert a decimal point five places from the right hand side of each number.

Open up the Simulator in GpsGate and enter the values just obtained as a single point simulation, set the speed to 0.0 and start the Simulator. This will provide a simulated fixed GPS position for the start of the itinerary.

Back in TTN5 load up the itinerary and when you tap Done it will be calculated and displayed correctly from the start point in the itinerary. You can now modify it accordingly to give the route you require, and save it again as long as you don't change the start point.

If you regularly use a number of favourite departure points you can save each one in GpsGate as a separate file with a suitable name. Then just open the relevant file in GpsGate, start the simulation, open TTN5 and create a new itinerary using the GPS position as the start point.

Note:
There are various text editors that will open .itn files as text but if you want to open them in Pocket Word then you need to add the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.itn

Then create the following REG_SZ entries and Values in that key:

Content Type - text/plain
Default - txtfile

You can just copy the last two from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt

That's interesting! I took the lazy way out, created my itineraries for France using TT3 and then copied them into TT5. They work OK (until I reach a location where the maps are different!)
I shall certainly give your method a try in the future, though

linknet - your method works a treat, good to have itinerary facility back - albeit a work around. Many thanks. Now I just need to get the satellite fix more stable.
