Why does it take quite a while to get a fix (TT5) - sometimes up to 5 minutes. I am using a MIO 168. This has only recently happenned and it occurs in different locations when I start TT5. Is there something I have set up incorrectly? |

No probs with my Mio, 1 mimute cold start.
I have read that if you are away from the location where the gps last had a signal then it does take longer to get a lock, also if you start driving before it gets a lock then that can also delay a lock.
When changing locations use gps (if you can, even if it is just for speed camera warning), start TT nav as you are heading to the car & wait before driving off. _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

My mio168 can sometimes take a long time to fix on the sats. 60 miles once.
As said above it will take longer if away from its last fix and also if surrounded by buildings etc.
i just switch it on before I leave normally 5 mins or so that way it always works |

5 mins is a LONG time should only be about 1 min if you are at the same location as you were when you switched off.
Check in
settings
system
memory
main
to see the memory usage. Have you still got free memory? iIf not can you delete anything you don't need or move data (mp3, pictures, videos etc. to storage card).
then tap the
running programs
tab to see what other programs are running and stop any that you don't need.
Soft reset does not delete data or programs (poke stylus in the hole on left side marked 'reset' while PPC is on. It will reboot. DO NOT DO HARD RESET [hard reset is using the battery switch on the rear of the ppc] as this will clear programs [Tomtom etc.] and you would have to reload TTN).
I was most upset the other day as TTN5 took 1 min 20 secs to lock, I had driven off before gps lock 'cause I was in a hurry.
Mio 168 + TTN5 (gps lock for TTN3 & TTN5 is the same for me). _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

Thanks for all the advice. I think it may be that I always seem to have it running from work to home. So obviously the last fix would be at home. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Once again, thanks. |
