Can CitySelect maps be used for auto-routing with the SPIII? My father owns a GPS-V with a pretty new CitySelect mapset that has an "all regions" unlock. The CityNavigator that'll come with my used SPIII is at least four years old, and only has one region unlocked. It'd be beyond sweet if I could register the SPIII as the 2nd GPS for the cityselect all regions unlock, and the CitySelect maps on the SPIII for autorouting. Will it work?

Garmin's website shows compatibility with CitySelect South Africa so theoretically it should be compatible with the European version, too.

However, strictly speaking, your father can only use the second unlock for his CitySelect data on a second unit which he owns.

You make an excellent point re: ethics, much as I hate to concede the need for greater expendatures. In any case, looking at Garmin's site, it would appear CityNavigator is the only North American product that'll work with the SPIII, so my moral quandy is averted, in any case.

So, the new, more pertinent question: I have the CityNavigator disc that came with the SPIII back in 2001. It doesn't list a map version number, but the disc includes MapSource 4, which gives you some indication of the age.

I see that I can purchase a CityNavigator 7.0 DVD upgrade, with an unlock-all-regions code, for $150 USD direct from Garmin, which isn't bad considering that it used to cost about that much for a single DCN, if memory serves. Does anyone know if the DVD update will ecognize my old CityNav and allow me to update it, or is it too old?
