set a major bridge or tunnel as a via in ttn 2004?

is there a way to set a major bridge as a via or checkpoint. i occasionally work in staten island and only really know the way taking the goethals bridge. the bridge is closed on weekends for construction so i need to take an alternate route. when i try a new route the program tries to direct me through brooklyn and manhattan when there a 2 other bridges to get me to the jersey side. i've tried to pick the outerbridge crossing as a via but the bridge is not listed as a road or poi so i don't know how to pick it. there was an outerbridge road or something nearby listed but even that didn't get the software to use the bridge. it's the one main area i've found my tomtom system to be useless. anyone have any ideas? the pairing down of features in 2004 probably doesn't help. i'm hoping 5 has some solutions.

Try and browse the map to locate it.

If you can find it on the browse map you can set it as a waypoint. If it's not on the map then TomTom will never use it.
