TT Rider is not released but someone maybe knows

Will the European maps supplied with the TT5 Upgrade work
with TomTom Rider?

Because of the common plattform I can't see why not?

Its meant to be using Navteq based maps rather than teleatlas not sure if its going to be coded differently

Wow, I did not expect that?

I used to complain about the poor TeleAtlas maps but after the TT5 Upgrade I've been very impressed

I thought the Navteq maps was better but I was "warned" by people at this Forum that Maptecq has their problems also

In case the TT Rider will be sold as a "Only 1 map included" package
I was hopping to be able to reuse the TeleAtlas maps

Doesn't this affect the Common Plattform strategy?

TomTom and Navteq said in their press releases, that TomTom's products would be made "Navteq ready" before the end of this year.

I assume this means the common platform will be recoded to cope with both types of data and that will leave TomTom free to buy the data from either supplier for any of the products.

Rider is confirmed as using Navteq, but TomTom Go could also switch to Navteq in countries where Teleatlas is weaker or has no data.

In theory, this is a good thing for the end user, as TomTom will be free to buy the most upto date data and the Suppliers will be keen to keep their contracts and so might improve the raw data supplied to TomTom.

Hmmmm.

A hint that we could be seeing Navteq maps on pocket pc's??
