Can you believe it Tomtom are charging £48 for safety camera updates for a year and on top of that they want us to let them know if we find any that are not in their database, surely if you pay for them then they should do all the legwork.

I have being using the FREE Pocketworld safety cameras for 3 months and found them to be very helpful. I have found the odd one missing but am unsure how to log it and send if off.
Does anybody know of a simple way to log missing cameras.

Set up a new POI category for new cams.

Save any new cams to this category making a note of the speed limit then send the .ov2 file to Cameras@PocketGPSWorld.com.

If you come across any cams in a TBA catagory you can make a note of which one it is and send in the speed limit so it can be put into the corect category.

Yeah, When you see a new cam either park up near it or do it as you are passing and enter it as a new POI. I do it on browse map that way you can select exactly were it is.

I have changed the menu so browse map is on the first page. When I see a cam that isnt in the database I go onto browse map then press thi icon to center map on location as I pass it. I can then pull over at a beter location and save it.

Or even beter get a pasenger to do it.

Method 1 - Store straight into the New Cameras POI category
Tap to go to to Menu page 1 / Change preferences / forward arrow / Manage POI / Add POI / Scroll up or down and select category "New Cameras" / forward arrow / GPS position / then name it.

That's way too many button presses for me, so:
Method 2 -
Tap screen / Add favourite / forward arrow / GPS position / name it anything (like just "30" or whatever)
Then at your leisure, copy it from the Favourites to the POI category by:

Menu page 1 / Change preferences / forward arrow / Manage POI / Add POI / Scroll up or down and select category "New Cameras" / Favourite / select it / then name it properly

Still too fiddly for my liking, though. Lots of people have asked for a one or two touch way to save a position.

Hi Blackdog,

Welcome to Earth, third rock from the Sun! Thumbs Up

Seriously though, have you tried our PocketGPSWorld camera database against the TomTom camera database? If you have, what do you think of the two databases vs. each other?

Regards,

Can't help with the TT database, but I can say that after travelling around 1000 miles in a few days on A30, M3, M25, M42, Nottingham, London, Warwick, etc. etc. it doesn't compare well with the Road Angel database. Although fantastic for free, your database is not comprehensive enough to give total peace of mind as there were a lot of cameras that RA picked up, and TT didn't.
Believe me, I'm not knocking in any way, just merely observing a difference.

While out at the weekend spotted a new cam a few miles from home but didn't have Jane with me, the camera is still being installed - barriers still around it no road markings.

Went Past today with Jane and guess what, its already in the database. Now that's what I call accurate and all for free too.

Excellent Laughing :D :D :D

I certainly intend to try your database. I'll let you know how I get on with it. I'm pretty new to TomTom. I've only had mine a couple of weeks, but have used it all across France, Belgium, Holland and especially Germany. So far I am well impressed with the accuracy (except where it thinks there is a motorway all the way from Paderborn to Osnabruck - Wrong!, there's a 15 mile gap in the middle). Apart from that, I think this will be a bit of kit that will be with me for some time to come yet. :P

Thanks for the observation on the differences between the free PocketGPSWorld camera database and the commercial Road Angel one. Don’t worry, we don’t take it as a knock. Smile Although our database is free, we still want it to be the best – i.e. the most accurate, up-to-date, and complete camera database that there is.

However to be the best, we need everybody’s help to report updates, i.e. new and removed sites as well as speed limit verification. Please continue to use our database and please continue to send in updates to:

If you buy a new TomTom you can get a free trial of the camera database. It seemed to be missing a lot of cameras. However, later on I realised that the Demo download is only about 6k whereas the full paid for download (which I have not paid for) is 68k. So the demo only has some of the cameras in it.

I suspect TomTom, if they were smart would try and buy their database from RoadAngel but there is no indication of that.
