Hi All.

Is there an easy way to convert a file with Postcodes to an ov2 file for POI's

I have a CSV file that looks like this:

Postcode, Name
mk13 4gp, Location2
ub12 3xr, Location3
dh24 3sq, Location4
etc..
etc..

I could easly add a few Postcodes as POI's in my tomtom500, but I have a very long list of postcodes that i want to convert into POI's.

Anybody have any ideas??

yes, but none of them are legal any more. You'll have to do it one by one.

You need 3 fields (columns) in your .csv file.

Latitude , Logitude , Text
-1.23456,52,34567,"MK134JP"

To make it readable pad either side of the commas with spaces.

Make sure that there are no headers on the file and use Makeov2 to convert to an .ov2 file.

You can download TomTom's ov2tools from http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/oldboy/TomTomTools/ov2tools.zip

Lutz, it's not illegal to do it for your own use, only if you pass it on to others.

At least that is my understanding.

As Oldboy says, it's ONLY illegal if you sell it. Why should it be illegal if it's for your OWN personal use.

You can't say everyone hasn't done something illegal at sometime in their life, how ever slight. Rolling Eyes

Richard, Lutz,

Thanks for your replys.

Richard: That means that I have to convert each Postcode to a Lat. & Longi. co-ordinate, then use Makeov2 to convert.

Is there an easy way to convert from Postcode to co-ordinates? - I ask because converting a list of >180 postcodes by using "streetmap" or "multimap" manually, would be a nightmare.

Lutz : Yes I am planning it for personal use - Not for selling or commercial. So hope that is on the right side of the law.

Now I am sure a lot of us have "temporarily" loaded a copy of Windows on our machines, at one time or another, with the full intension of getting a Lic. copy. Wink

If you have Microsoft AutoRoute then import the CSV file, save the map and exit AutoRoute. You can then use my POIConverter program to read the map file (AXE) and write the pushpin data as a TomTom Overlay (OV2).

POIConverter can be downloaded from http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/html/poiconverter.html
