Cameras have been installed at each end of the south bound lightwater bypass. They are equipped with infrared and have 3 cameras on each pole.

They look rather complex for simply traffic monitoring. Are they SPECS?

I noticed these also. Do you know when they first went up?

I don't know for definite, but I think it was early last week. I used the bypass on 5/7 and some men were working on them.

I have just recieved a response from Surrey County Council.

The system being installed on the Lightwater Bypass is SPECS.

"This is a private company who are testing the registration number
recognition technology. It is not, and will not be used for enforcement at
this location, and is not connected in anyway to the Surrey Safety Camera
Partnership. There are no current plans for introducing SPECs time over distance equipment in Surrey." - Quote from Surrey County Council (12 July 2005)

Surrey CC provided a link to SCS - Details - so expect they are the private company concerned.

I wonder when they will be putting up signs telling motorists that it's a SPECS Test Area.
