Got a C330..

Hello all, I just got a C330, but am dissappointed to find that there's no obvious way of getting any POI databases on there. I found the speed camera database for Garmin GPS' by WiReD in the other forum, but it seems I need Mapsource to do anything with it, which I don't have.

Going through the Garmin website it looks like I can get an unlock code for the CD, but I didn't get a Mapsource CD with the unit and they don't offer it for download - do I have to buy a CD to enable me to add/change the maps on the unit?

What can I do to get Speed camera locations on there?

Other than that it seems a good unit, quick to respond, and the map res/detail is excellent, apart from the fact I can't find a way to enter a post code as a location!

ChriX, the C320/330 do not support postcode searches. Hopefully Garmin will support this in a future firmware update. I would say check the firmware updates in the support section of the Garmin website once a month.

I am not too sure about the POI databases though.

Bah! Ok, thanks for confirming it though. I've noticed that the postcode comes up if you put an address in, it just seems strange that you can't search by it. Hopefully as you say there will be a firmware update that adds this feature.

Do you own one of these units? If so, any tips for finding a place with no street number? Thanks. Smile

I have a C320. To find a place with no street number, just put a zero in the street number, then you should find the street okay.

Hi, all. it seems that the old days have gone as Garmin has released a POI loader. You can now upload the safety camera database on your Garmins.
Also you can create whatever databases you like of POIs including a database for postcode search (just read the help file of the POI loader to see how easy-although may be time consuming- to create a CSV file).
Please don't be disappointed as I think that the last loophole in these systems is now hopefully closed.
