I have to say now that I have gone to install the portugal map which I presumed ( yes assumptions huh ! ) would be jst like the GB one I am rather somewhat displeased...
What the hell happened to it ! You get the choice to install Spain / Andora or Iberia Plus - so seeing as portugal is only on the iberia plus I installed it. 227mb and theres no bloomin roads on it apart from the major motorway raods and main road links to other vilages. I was kinda hoping that with my upgrade I would receive detailed maps of most places and the TT website looked like good coverage if it too.
So anyone interested in Portugal, forget it wtih TTN5... Well at least if you wanted to plan a whole holiday touring every nook and cranny with GPS Satnav.
P.S. kinda makes me wish there was a trial but not being the sort to DL illegal software and pay forces me to reconsider in the future. Cmon TomTom sort this out please as I see a post on here for wheres Greece also!!!
Rant over ;) |

The TomTom website shows 43% Street Network Coverage for Portugal. I think you'll find this is very similar to all the other navigation packages.
It's fine for general touring but mot if you want to find a specific road in a village or small town. |

You are absolutely right!
It's ridiculous that there is no option to install only Portugal - if you want Portugal you have to install Spain, Andorra and the major roads of Europe - a wopping 227 mb!!!
In what regards to Portugal, the only thing that is better in TT5 are the POI's.
TT says that the map coverage of Portugal is 43% on TT5 (if my memory serves my correctly, thats about 15% more than on TT3) but to be honest, and after spending quite a bit of time around TT5's maps, I see very little roads added.
On TT5 the cities that have detailed maps are exactly the same as on TT3 so no new cities have been added (strangely only details of some small towns have been added!!!???), the newer motorways aren't covered (example A13 uo to Santarem), 9 map errors I have detected in TT3 (and informed TT about last year) are still not corrected.
TT5's GUI is better than before but there are thigs that I don't like, namely :
- The fact that you can't program your own speeds on each one of the road types (this makes your ETA completely wrong!)
- The fact that you can't program the PDA keys
- The fact that TT5 wears out the PDA battery quite fast
- The fact that TT5 has a lag problem/speed issues - if you make a worng turn TT will only recognize this 3 or 4 seconds later (in 3 or 4 second you can go a long way!)
In truth I think TT5 is better than TT3 and can even be great if TT would correct the above points!! |
