No internet communication with Ipaq for TTTraffic

I've just upgraded to TTN5 and wish to try Traffic. I followed the instructions but TT can't connect via my Ipaq (3970). The phone (SE 700i) and Ipaq are paired Ok and the phone has gprs but clearly one can't see the other in TT. I've studied the forums but to be honest they don't help me much - is there any idiot's guide? Does the GPRS have to be engaged on the phone or does TT do it automatically when it needs to?

Also confusing is the "mobile phone" icon on the screen shot in the TT plus "book". I don't have one - on mine the favourites icon is there.

Any help appreciated

You first of all have to set up a new connection on your Ipaq using the information your service provider will give you. Who are you with?

I have the everything on the phone - GPRS etc. with O2 - AND can get the phone to bluetooth the IPAQ - but thats about as far as i get!

You may have GPRS on your phone but have you set up a new conection for the PDA to conect to the internet via GPRS.

If you use O2 you need to do the below which was sent to me by the O2 Data Support Team, it worked perfectly for me:

Pairing the devices

Tap on the Bluetooth manager icon and make sure the Bluetooth radio is turned on Now Tap on the Bluetooth manager icon again then tap on the Bluetooth manager option make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on the handset On the iPAQ tap on Tools->paired devices Click on Add then click on the search Icon which looks like a magnifying glass on paper located to the right of the Device field Tap on Your handset name and enter any passkey then press OK Press Accept or Yes on the handset and then enter the passkey which you entered into the iPAQ on the handset You should now see your handset ID displaye on the iPAQ screen, press OK

Tap on New->Connect select Connect to the internet option and press Next

Select Connect via a dial-up device such as a cellular phone then press Next Tap on where it says "Tap here to choose a device" and select your handset name Leave create a shortcut for this connection Ticked and then click Finished Tap on New Connection... and enter the following: - Connection Name: O2 Mobile Web Bluetooth Country Code: Leave blank Area Code: Leave blank Phone Number: *99# for Nokia handsets OR *99***CID NUMBER# for Sony Ericsson handsets then press OK
Username: web
Password: password tap on save password and press OK It will now try and connect tap on Settings on the connection window Select manage existing connections Select O2 Mobile Web Bluetooth and press Edit Tap on Next 2 times then tap on Advanced Remove the Tick from Wait for dial tone before dialing Enter +cgdcont=1,"ip","mobile.o2.co.uk" in the Extra dial-string commands
NOTE: this doesn't appear to work with some newer handsets (eg Sony Ericsson S700i or T630) and the following should be tried;
- For Nokia handsets enter only &f in the Extra dial-string field
- For Sony Ericcson handsets enter only z in the Extra dial-string field
- The APN setting of mobile.o2.co.uk must be in the handset Tap on TCP/IP and remove the Ticks from use software compression & Use IP header compression Tap on Servers and then tap on Use specific server address and enter the
following: -
DNS: 193.113.200.200
Alt DNS: 193.113.200.201 then press OK then Finish Press OK until you get back to the today screen You should now be ready to connect.

Ray - many thanks - that's brilliant! It's a wonder anyone manages to do it! Ot maybe I'm just think. I'll certainly give it a go. I have a SE 700i so thanks for the extra tips.

After trying Ray's method with not a lot of luck - I contacted o2 data support. It took them about 15 minutes to talk me through all the elements - many of which didn't work! Some of the instructions that they gave Ray (like the numbers) actually don't really matter i.e. it doesn't matter what you put in the field. Anyway, we got it working and connected to Traffic - Hooray!!!

Now the bad news! The Traffic works fine (at least it would!) but now the BT Clip on won't see the IPAQ!!!! So now no TT. Just about to have another play to see if I can fix this but any further ideas welcome. When (and if) I finally cracked it I will post a step by step update - at least for my Ipaq/k700/02 and Clip-on.

We're getting there! After re-pairing the Clip-on and the IPAQ and reconfiguring the BT GPS in TTN everything worked! Hooray!

However, I find this morning that whilst the IPAQ quite happily talks to the IPAQ AND the Clip-on, whilst they are on the phone will not connect to the Jabra BT headset..............................aaargghhhhhhhh! When the IPAQ is not paired with the phone all works fine! So - do I need to make a choice between Trafiic and handsfree? Hopefully not! Any final ideas guys?

When this is sorted I will write a step by step for idiots like me!

Malcolm,

The S700i (like most other phones) only supports one Bluetooth connection at a time so you have to pick either the headset or the PDA. I solved this by getting a PAYG phone just for the Traffic.

That's cracked it then! At least I know it's not ME this time! To be honest from what I have read I don't think the traffic is worth it so probably won't subscribe at the end of the period. I already have a trafficmaster that is pretty good at warning me about most immediate problems - for less than half the price!!!
